Expanding its Global Reach: YouTube Premium Launches in 10 Additional Countries

YouTube Premium’s Global Expansion Reaches New Horizons

YouTube Premium, the subscription-based service of the renowned video-streaming platform, has broadened its reach, extending its availability to ten additional countries. While the paid tier was already accessible in numerous regions worldwide, Google’s recent expansion has elevated its reach, now encompassing a total of 100 countries where users can opt for the subscription. Accompanying this expansion, Google has also introduced more budget-friendly student plans in all the newly incorporated countries. This move comes on the heels of YouTube Premium surpassing 100 million subscribers in February 2024, marking a significant milestone nine years after the inception of YouTube’s paid tier.

The recent geographical expansion was first identified by Android Police, which noticed updates on Google’s support page related to YouTube Premium, listing the addition of ten new countries. These newly included regions consist of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Libya, Morocco, Réunion, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen, and Zimbabwe. With these additions, the count of countries where the premium subscription is available has now reached 100, as indicated by the updated listing. However, it’s worth noting that the service is temporarily unavailable in Russia, making the current active count 99 countries.

As per the report, all ten countries will get YouTube Premium’s family and student plans, alongside the basic individual plan, allowing a chance to get the subscription at a discounted rate. The student plan is available to full-time students at higher education institutions. However, their student status will be annually verified by a third-party verification service. The family subscription allows users to add up to 5 family members of age 13 or older to join the Google family group and take advantage of a single subscription which is priced slightly higher than the individual plan.
