Apple officially launched the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9, introducing the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max to the global market. Alongside the smartphones, the company unveiled a range of new accessories, including a ‘40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max’ designed to enhance charging speeds. However, a recent social media post has raised questions about whether faster charging on the iPhone 17 series will be limited to this new adapter—and only for a short duration.

A Reddit user who claims to have tested the new charging accessory shared a detailed hands-on review, noting that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max can draw up to 60W of power for about 18 minutes. After that, the charging speed reportedly drops to lower levels. Unlike previous chargers that relied on programmable power supply (PPS), Apple’s latest adaptor leverages adjustable voltage supply (AVS) technology, which may be behind the limited-time boost in wattage.

During the official launch event, Apple highlighted that the iPhone 17 Pro models can reach 50 percent battery in just 20 minutes when paired with what it called an “optional high-wattage” USB Type-C adaptor. This appears to be a reference to the newly introduced Dynamic Power Adapter. The accessory is priced at Rs. 3,900 in India but has not yet been listed on Apple’s local online store, leaving buyers waiting for availability details.

The move underscores Apple’s strategy of pairing new hardware with exclusive accessories, potentially nudging users toward purchasing the new adaptor to unlock the iPhone 17 series’ full charging potential. While the speed boost is impressive, questions remain about the practicality of a charging system that offers peak performance only for a limited window. For heavy users, whether the 18-minute 60W surge makes a meaningful difference—or is just another marketing angle—will likely be a key point of debate.
