Samsung Reportedly Testing “Prioritise Notifications” Option for Galaxy Devices in One UI 8.5
Samsung is reportedly testing a new “Prioritise Notifications” feature for its upcoming One UI 8.5 update, aiming to help Galaxy users better manage their notification streams. The feature is expected to let users mark certain apps or notification types as high priority, ensuring that important alerts appear above the rest. This builds on Samsung’s ongoing efforts to integrate more AI-driven tools in its interface, offering smarter, context-aware notifications.
According to a SammyGuru report, Prioritise Notifications will be part of Galaxy AI, Samsung’s proprietary artificial intelligence suite. Users will be able to select which apps’ notifications should be prioritized, and these alerts will consistently appear at the top of the notification panel. This ensures that critical updates are not missed, especially during busy periods when multiple notifications arrive simultaneously.
Interestingly, the feature processes notification content directly on the device rather than relying on cloud services, which may offer privacy benefits. This on-device processing could help maintain user data security while still allowing the AI to determine which notifications are the most relevant or urgent. Screenshots shared by the report indicate a simple interface for managing prioritized apps and notifications within the settings menu.
One UI 8.5 is also rumored to bring additional cosmetic improvements, including blurred backgrounds for lock screen notifications to reduce visual clutter and new clock styles to enhance customization. Comparatively, Apple introduced a similar Priority Notifications feature in iOS 18.4 earlier this year, leveraging on-device intelligence to highlight essential alerts while preserving privacy. Samsung’s implementation appears to follow a similar philosophy, balancing smarter notifications with user control and security.
