Microsoft Teases Next-Gen Xbox as the ‘Largest Technical Leap’ in Console History

Xbox’s Current Lineup: Series X and Series S

During a special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast, Microsoft unveiled its ambitious roadmap for the future of Xbox hardware, marking a significant milestone in the gaming industry. Sarah Bond, the president of Xbox, took center stage to outline the company’s strategy, emphasizing a dual commitment to innovation and accessibility. Amidst the announcement that four Xbox-exclusive titles would be expanding to platforms like PS5 and Nintendo Switch, Bond reassured fans of Xbox’s unwavering dedication to pushing the boundaries of gaming technology.

One of the most anticipated revelations came as Bond hinted at the imminent arrival of new Xbox hardware during the upcoming holiday season. This announcement sparked waves of excitement among gamers worldwide, fueling speculation about potential enhancements and advancements. While specific details remain under wraps, Bond tantalizingly suggested that the forthcoming hardware release would represent a significant leap forward in technical capabilities.

Reflecting on the current lineup, Xbox boasts a diverse array of offerings, ranging from the powerhouse Xbox Series X to the more budget-friendly Xbox Series S. However, Bond’s remarks hinted at a broader vision, one that transcends mere hardware iterations. With a relentless focus on delivering unparalleled gaming experiences, Microsoft is poised to redefine the gaming landscape with its next-generation consoles.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits further details, anticipation continues to mount around Microsoft’s next move. With promises of groundbreaking advancements and a commitment to accessibility, the future of Xbox appears brighter than ever, setting the stage for an exhilarating new chapter in gaming history.

According to the leaked concept images, Microsoft’s mid-gen refresh of the Xbox Series X is codenamed ‘Brooklin,’ an all-digital console that boasts the same peformance and features as the original one, except for the optical disc drive.

The console appears to have a cylindrical design and an upgraded 2TB storage and will likely maintain the Series X’s pricing — $499, or Rs. 54,990. The leaked documents had claimed that ‘Brooklin’ would release sometime in October 2024. In addition to the console, Xbox also plans to launch an upgraded controller with gyro, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, just like PlayStation’s DualSense controller.

In the podcast, where Bond was joined by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty, the Xbox president did not disclose a launch window for the next generation of Xbox consoles, but Microsoft expects the next-gen Xbox and PS6 to launch in 2028, as also revealed by court documents from the FTC trial in June last year. “This term would, in any case, go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028),” the company had said in the documents. The current generation of consoles — Xbox Series S/X and PS5 — was launched in 2020.
