Apple has officially launched the Apple TV app for Android devices, now available for download on Google Play. The Apple TV app had previously been available on Google TV since 2021, but the release for Android smartphones and tablets is a major milestone for the service. Apple first launched its TV platform in 2019, and now, nearly six years later, it is reaching a wider audience on Android. The rollout is expected to take a few days to reach all users globally, with Android devices offering a new gateway for Apple’s streaming content. Google confirmed this launch through a blog post, highlighting the expansion of Apple TV’s reach beyond its traditional ecosystem.

Android users will benefit from several useful features within the app, including the ability to seamlessly resume content with the Continue Watching feature. This functionality ensures that users can pick up right where they left off, whether they’re switching between devices or continuing a show on their mobile while on the move. Another feature, the Saved Watchlist, allows users to keep track of content they plan to watch in the future. Additionally, users will be able to download content for offline viewing, making it even more convenient to enjoy Apple’s exclusive shows and movies without an internet connection.

Gemini and Imagen 3 to Enable Google Workspace Users to Create Custom Images of People

Google has announced that Workspace users will now be able to generate images of people using its advanced Gemini AI, marking a significant update to its suite of productivity tools. This new capability is part of the company’s broader initiative to enhance its Google Workspace offerings with artificial intelligence (AI) features. The rollout comes after a brief period in February 2024, when Google temporarily removed Gemini’s ability to create images involving people due to concerns over the generation of inaccurate and biased visuals that raised the risk of deepfakes.

As part of its latest update, Google has integrated AI features into the core Google Workspace subscription, eliminating the previous Gemini add-on. This shift allows all paid subscribers access to the first batch of new Gemini-powered features. Among these updates, the most noteworthy is the ability to generate images featuring people, thanks to the advanced capabilities of the Imagen 3 AI model. This marks a return for the feature, which was initially suspended but is now reintroduced with additional safeguards.

Google had rolled back this feature in early 2024 after AI-generated images were found to potentially propagate harmful biases. In response, the company has re-launched the functionality in an early access phase starting in August 2024, after implementing a series of safeguards designed to reduce the risk of misuse. These measures aim to ensure that the generated images are more accurate and ethically produced, providing users with a more secure experience when creating custom images of people.

To further protect against potential misuse, Google has also integrated SynthID, a watermarking tool that tags AI-generated images for identification. This feature is intended to ensure that images created by Gemini can be clearly distinguished from authentic photographs, adding an extra layer of accountability. With these enhancements, Google is positioning itself as a leader in responsible AI deployment within its productivity ecosystem, giving users powerful new tools while maintaining safeguards to prevent harm.

Google Messages May Soon Support Video Calls Through WhatsApp, Report Says

Google Messages is reportedly adding a new feature that could simplify video calls for users by integrating WhatsApp’s video calling functionality. This feature, still in development, was discovered in the app’s code, and although it is not yet active, it may be rolled out in future updates. The integration is designed to activate when the user does not have Google Meet installed on their device, making WhatsApp the alternative video-calling solution. The potential addition could streamline the process of making video calls without needing to switch between multiple apps.

According to Android Authority, the feature was uncovered within Google Messages version 20250131, where a flag indicating its activation was found in the app’s code. This feature is expected to pop up when users tap the video call icon, prompting them to initiate a call through WhatsApp. However, it will only appear if Google Meet is not present on the user’s device. Currently, Google Messages defaults to Google Meet for video calls, prompting users to install it if it’s not already on their phone, creating an extra step for those who prefer other platforms.

If the feature is officially launched, it would allow users to directly start a WhatsApp video call without leaving the Google Messages interface. The call would open in full-screen mode, eliminating the need for additional clicks or switching between apps. This change is likely to make video calling much smoother for Google Messages users who regularly use WhatsApp as their primary messaging platform.

The integration, however, is expected to work only in one-on-one chats. For group video calls, the app will still default to Google Meet, and the WhatsApp option will not be available. Additionally, if the person on the other end of the call doesn’t have WhatsApp installed, Google Messages will not prompt the user to initiate a WhatsApp video call. This development, while still in the works, hints at further improvements in user experience for Google Messages users who prefer WhatsApp for communication.
