Far Cry 4 Receives Free 60FPS Upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series Ahead of Game Pass Debut

Ubisoft has rolled out a surprise update for Far Cry 4, breathing new life into the decade-old open-world shooter with a performance boost tailored for modern consoles. Originally launched in 2014, Far Cry 4 is now optimized to run at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, enhancing the fluidity and responsiveness of gameplay across both platforms. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the game first arrived on PC, PS4, and Xbox 360 before making its way to the current-gen lineup.

The performance upgrade comes as part of Patch 1.08, a free update quietly released and first noticed by PS5 players, who began sharing their findings online. Ubisoft later confirmed the update via an official blog post, noting the improved frame rate now available to players on newer hardware. This enhancement offers a more polished experience in Kyrat, the game’s Himalayan-inspired setting, and brings a fresh feel to a fan-favorite entry in the Far Cry series.

In the update announcement, Ubisoft highlighted how the increased frame rate heightens the intensity and immersion of the game’s iconic moments. Whether players are soaring in a wingsuit, engaging in chaotic firefights, or riding an elephant into enemy territory, the smoother visuals contribute to a more cinematic and dynamic experience. It’s a significant quality-of-life improvement for players revisiting the title or discovering it for the first time.

The timing of the update is especially notable, as it comes just ahead of Far Cry 4’s upcoming debut on Xbox Game Pass. By ensuring the game runs at its best on current hardware, Ubisoft is not only rewarding longtime fans but also preparing for a new wave of players who will soon have access to the game through Microsoft’s subscription service. This move suggests a broader strategy of reinvigorating legacy titles for today’s performance standards.

Oblivion Remaster Surprise-Launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

In a surprise move following weeks of leaks and speculation, Bethesda has officially announced and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The upgraded version of the 2006 RPG classic is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and is included with Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost. The remaster brings updated visuals and smoother gameplay to one of the most beloved entries in The Elder Scrolls franchise.

The Standard Edition of the remastered release includes the full base game along with its two major expansions—Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine—plus all previously released downloadable content, including the famously mocked yet iconic Horse Armor Pack. For those looking for more, a Deluxe Edition adds a selection of new quests, a digital artbook, and the original soundtrack.

Bethesda revealed that the remaster has been in development since 2021 in partnership with Virtuos, a studio known for high-quality remaster projects. Contrary to earlier rumors suggesting a full remake, the developers emphasized that this release is a faithful upgrade of the original, with refined mechanics, improved lighting and textures, and carefully balanced updates to systems like leveling and combat. The goal, according to Bethesda, was to enhance the experience without losing the soul of the original game.

“We wanted the remaster to feel like a memory—how you thought the game looked back then, but now brought to life with modern tools,” the company said in a blog post. Every artistic asset, animation, and effect has been reworked, while retaining the atmosphere and pacing of the 2006 experience. Bethesda also noted that original voice performances have been preserved where possible, with new recordings subtly blended in. Above all, the team stressed that while the game has been modernized, its classic identity remains intact.

EA Unveils Star Wars Zero Company, Announces 2026 Release for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X

Electronic Arts has officially announced its upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars Zero Company, a single-player, turn-based tactics title developed in collaboration with Bit Reactor, Respawn Entertainment, and Lucasfilm Games. Scheduled for release in 2026, Star Wars Zero Company will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X.

The game was first teased following a leak, but it was officially revealed during the Star Wars Celebration event in Japan. In Star Wars Zero Company, players will take on the role of Hawk, a former Republic officer who is now leading a team of elite mercenaries. The operatives that make up Zero Company are as diverse as they come, hailing from different corners of the Star Wars universe. Players will encounter familiar Star Wars archetypes such as astromechs, Jedi, and droids, each with unique personalities and combat skills, contributing to the game’s tactical depth.

Alongside the announcement, EA revealed a trailer showcasing both cinematic scenes and gameplay footage, giving fans a glimpse into the strategic gameplay they can expect. Greg Foertsch, CEO and Creative Director at Bit Reactor, described the game’s design philosophy as being deeply integrated with the immersive Star Wars galaxy. He emphasized that Star Wars Zero Company would offer players an original storyline set during the Clone Wars era, where their choices will have meaningful consequences. The tactical combat is designed to be both deep and approachable, with a cinematic presentation to enhance the overall experience.

Players will guide Zero Company through a series of tactical operations and investigations, spanning various locations across the galaxy. In addition to strategic combat, players will also be responsible for developing a base of operations. Customization plays a key role in the game, with players able to personalize Hawk’s appearance and combat class. The rest of the operatives can be selected from a wide range of Star Wars character classes and species, allowing for further customization in terms of appearances, loadouts, and abilities. With its rich lore and tactical gameplay, Star Wars Zero Company is shaping up to be a unique and immersive addition to the Star Wars franchise.
