Brave Browser Introduces AI Assistant Leo for Android Users

Brave Browser’s AI Assistant Leo Debuts for Android Users With Update to Version 1.63

Brave Browser is known for its commitment to user privacy and security, and now, it’s enhancing the browsing experience with the introduction of its AI assistant Leo for Android devices. Originally unveiled in November 2023 for the desktop browser, Leo is now making its way to mobile platforms, starting with Android.

With Leo, users can expect a versatile AI chatbot capable of performing a wide range of tasks, from summarizing web pages to answering queries and even writing code snippets. This expansion to Android reflects Brave’s ongoing efforts to provide innovative and privacy-focused features across all its platforms.

The arrival of Leo on Brave Browser for Android comes as part of the version 1.63 update. Once users update their browser, they gain access to Leo directly from the address bar. By clicking on the AI icon, represented by a four-point star, users can activate Leo and start interacting with it. Additionally, users can initiate on-page chats with Leo by tapping the three-dot menu icon and selecting Leo from the options. Brave has also hinted at Leo’s imminent availability for iOS users, suggesting a broader rollout of the AI assistant across different platforms in the near future.

Leo’s capabilities extend far beyond basic assistance. In addition to summarizing web pages and providing answers to queries, Leo can generate written content, translate pages, analyze content, and even summarize audio or video content.

This breadth of functionality positions Leo as a versatile tool for various tasks, whether it’s researching information, learning new skills, or simply seeking assistance with everyday tasks. Notably, Brave’s privacy-centric approach ensures that users can leverage Leo’s capabilities without compromising their data privacy, as no sign-up or login is required to access the AI assistant.

The AI chatbot is not trained on a particular large language model (LLM). Instead, Brave gives three LLMs for users to choose from, depending on the use case and preference. By default, the assistant runs on the Mixtral 8x7B model, but users can also pick between Claude Instant and Llama 2 (13B variant). There are two versions of Leo available, one is free and another is paid. The free version offers all the LLMs but adds a strict rate limit. The premium version has higher rate limits and offers additional features.

Brave browser’s Leo Premium plan offers priority access to AI models, higher accuracy on responses, and more. The monthly subscription fee is set at the price of $14.99 in the US and Rs. 1,450 in India.
