MapmyIndia in Talks With Perplexity AI Following CEO’s Remarks on Mapping Challenges
Mappls MapmyIndia has signaled its interest in collaborating with Perplexity AI, following remarks from Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas about the challenges of building advanced mapping products. Srinivas had noted that platforms like YouTube and Maps are among the hardest to develop, prompting MapmyIndia to highlight its own expertise in mapping India and extend a public invitation for partnership. The company’s approach mirrors its previous collaboration with Zoho, reflecting a willingness to team up with innovative technology firms.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 24, MapmyIndia directly addressed Perplexity AI: “Like we’ve proudly partnered with @Zoho, we’d love to partner with @perplexity_ai too.” This statement underscored the company’s confidence in its mapping capabilities and readiness to explore synergies with an AI-driven platform. By positioning itself as a potential partner, MapmyIndia aims to demonstrate that developing reliable maps, especially for a diverse country like India, is a challenge it is uniquely equipped to handle.
Founded in 1995, MapmyIndia has decades of experience building detailed maps across both urban and rural regions of India. Its apps and navigation solutions are trusted by over 35 million users nationwide and are increasingly gaining recognition on a global scale. The company emphasizes that its mapping technology is “swadeshi”—designed in India to meet the specific needs of local navigation, logistics, mobility, and governance, while also serving daily users efficiently.
By inviting Perplexity AI to collaborate, MapmyIndia is signaling its intent to blend AI capabilities with its deep-rooted mapping expertise, potentially creating smarter, more adaptive navigation tools. Such a partnership could accelerate the development of advanced mapping solutions, strengthen India’s homegrown tech ecosystem, and provide an alternative to global giants like Google Maps in both domestic and international markets.
