AMD Supports Crusoe AI Expansion

AMD is reportedly backing a $300 million loan for cloud computing startup Crusoe to finance the deployment of its AI chips.

The arrangement includes a guarantee mechanism allowing AMD to lease back its own hardware if Crusoe is unable to secure sufficient demand from AI developers.

The financing, led by Goldman Sachs, will be supported by the equipment being installed at a new data center project in Ohio.

Crusoe, originally launched in the cryptocurrency sector, has shifted its focus toward building cloud infrastructure for artificial intelligence applications.

The initiative reflects a growing trend among semiconductor companies to support emerging AI-focused cloud providers.

Microsoft Denies ICE Mass Surveillance Use

Microsoft has stated that it does not believe U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is using its technology for mass surveillance of civilians.

The company confirmed that it provides cloud-based productivity and collaboration tools to ICE through its partnerships with the Department of Homeland Security. The clarification follows reports suggesting the agency expanded its reliance on Microsoft’s Azure platform while increasing data storage and analytical capabilities.

According to those reports, ICE significantly increased its data use within Azure as its operations and workforce grew. The agency was also said to be using various digital tools to analyze information related to enforcement activities.

Microsoft emphasized that its policies prohibit the use of its technology for civilian mass surveillance and reiterated its position that legal frameworks should clearly define how emerging technologies are used in law enforcement.

ICE declined to comment on specific investigative tools but noted that it uses technology to support criminal investigations.

The issue highlights ongoing debate over the role of advanced digital systems in public sector operations.

Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon in talks to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI

Major technology companies Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon are in discussions to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI, according to a report by The Information. The talks highlight the growing scale of investment required to develop and operate advanced artificial intelligence models.

Nvidia, an existing OpenAI investor whose chips power many of its AI systems, is reportedly considering an investment of up to $30 billion. Microsoft, a long-term backer, is said to be in talks to invest less than $10 billion, while Amazon, which would be a new investor, is discussing a significantly larger commitment that could exceed $20 billion.

The report said OpenAI is close to receiving formal term sheets from the potential investors. Amazon’s participation may be linked to broader commercial negotiations, including expanded cloud infrastructure agreements and the sale of OpenAI products such as enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions. The talks come as OpenAI faces rising costs to train and run its models amid intensifying competition in the AI sector.
