Salesforce Restricts AI Competitors’ Access to Slack Data, The Information Reports

Salesforce has tightened control over Slack data access by blocking rival AI software firms from searching or storing Slack messages, according to a report by The Information on Tuesday. This change follows updates Salesforce made to its terms of service, detailed in a public statement issued on May 29.

A Salesforce spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to responsible AI and data management, noting the firm’s efforts to implement thoughtful and transparent safeguards around how data accessed through Slack’s APIs can be stored, used, and shared.

The updated policy restricts third-party apps like Glean from long-term indexing, copying, or storing Slack data obtained via the Slack API. Glean notified its customers that this will limit their ability to integrate Slack data into their AI-powered search and knowledge platforms, potentially reducing users’ flexibility in leveraging their enterprise data.

The move reflects growing scrutiny around how AI companies handle personal and customer data used to train AI models, as businesses aim to balance innovation with privacy and security concerns.

Salesforce, Glean, and other affected parties did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.

SK Group Chairman Chey Apologizes for Major SK Telecom Data Breach, Pledges Security Overhaul

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won issued a public apology on Wednesday following a significant data breach at SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile carrier, which has sparked alarm among its 23 million users over potential theft of personal and financial information.

The breach, detected on April 18, was attributed to a malware attack, and has led to widespread concern and customer action. Thousands have visited SK Telecom outlets to replace their USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) cards, which the company is offering free of charge.

Chey, speaking for the first time since the breach became public, said, I believe we need to look at this as a matter of national defence, not just (data) security.” He acknowledged a need for a more comprehensive and strategic approach to cybersecurity, noting that the company previously treated such threats as a standard IT issue handled internally.

In response to the breach, SK Telecom has launched a USIM Protection Service, which it says provides equivalent protection to replacing the USIM card. Chey confirmed he enrolled in the service but had not yet replaced his own card.

The chairman also pledged a full-scale security review involving external cybersecurity experts to prevent similar incidents in the future and restore public trust in the company’s data protection capabilities.

India’s Finance Ministry Advises Employees to Avoid AI Tools Like ChatGPT and DeepSeek

India’s finance ministry has issued an internal advisory urging employees to refrain from using AI tools, including ChatGPT and DeepSeek, for official work. The advisory, dated January 29, cites concerns over the potential risks to the confidentiality of government data and documents. The move follows similar restrictions by countries such as Australia and Italy, which have also raised concerns over data security with AI tools like DeepSeek.

The advisory surfaced ahead of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s visit to India, where he was scheduled to meet with India’s IT minister. The ministry’s note outlines the risks associated with using AI apps on government devices, which may compromise the security of sensitive information.

Representatives from the Indian finance ministry, OpenAI, and DeepSeek have not responded to requests for comment. While it is unclear if other Indian ministries have issued similar restrictions, the development is part of ongoing scrutiny of OpenAI’s activities in India, including a high-profile copyright case involving major Indian media organizations.
