Huawei aims to expand role in Brazil’s data center market amid pending tax incentives

Chinese technology giant Huawei has expressed interest in strengthening its position as a supplier of data center solutions in Brazil, Reuters reported on Thursday. While Huawei clarified it does not plan to invest directly in data centers, the company is keen to provide connectivity, storage, and energy solutions for the growing market.

Huawei’s Latin America and Caribbean Vice President of Public Relations, Atilio Rulli, emphasized the importance of the Brazilian government implementing upcoming tax-break incentives designed to attract tech investments. “We want the government to implement these incentives, which are good for the country, and the time has to be now,” he said.

Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy, is working to build a strong data center industry leveraging its abundant renewable energy resources. The government’s tax-break plan is expected to be sent to Congress soon, according to a finance ministry adviser.

The country has already attracted attention from major players such as ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, as part of its digital infrastructure expansion.

Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Brazil’s digital transformation with reliable, scalable, and sustainable data center solutions once government incentives come into force.

Capgemini to Acquire WNS for $3.3 Billion to Boost AI-Driven Outsourcing Services

France’s IT services giant Capgemini has agreed to purchase technology outsourcing firm WNS for $3.3 billion in cash, aiming to expand its portfolio of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for business process improvement, the company announced on Monday.

The acquisition will enable Capgemini to develop consulting services focused on enhancing company operations and cost efficiency through AI technologies, including generative AI and agentic AI, which it anticipates will attract substantial investment.

The deal values WNS shares at $76.50 each, a 17% premium over their closing price on July 3, excluding WNS’s financial debt. Capgemini’s interest in the India-based WNS, known for business process outsourcing (BPO) and data analytics, was initially reported by Reuters in April.

Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat highlighted that WNS’s “high growth, margin accretive and resilient Digital Business Process Services” would also strengthen Capgemini’s footprint in the U.S. market. WNS’s client roster includes major firms such as Coca-Cola, T-Mobile, and United Airlines.

In a media call, Ezzat noted that the acquisition would immediately open cross-selling opportunities in the U.S. and the U.K. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2025 and to be accretive to Capgemini’s revenue and operating margin from day one.

Despite the strategic rationale, Capgemini’s shares dropped about 5% after the announcement, making it one of the biggest decliners on Europe’s STOXX 600 index. Morgan Stanley analysts expressed concerns that the deal might restrict Capgemini’s financial flexibility and have limited immediate financial impact.

Analysts also cautioned that generative AI could disrupt the traditionally labor-intensive BPO market, potentially affecting Capgemini’s revenue and introducing new competitors. They noted the market might need more proof that WNS is the optimal vehicle for leveraging AI to transform BPO services.

Qualcomm Opens AI Research and Development Centre in Vietnam

Qualcomm, the U.S.-based chipmaker, announced on Tuesday the launch of a new artificial intelligence (AI) research and development centre in Vietnam.

The centre will focus on advancing generative and agentic AI technologies across a variety of fields including smartphones, personal computers, extended reality (XR), automotive, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s national strategies on AI, semiconductors, and digital transformation. Qualcomm plans to emphasize technology transfer, ecosystem collaboration, and capacity building as part of its operations.

During a meeting in Hanoi, Alex Rogers, Qualcomm’s President of Global Affairs, met with Vietnam’s top leader, To Lam. To Lam encouraged Qualcomm to continue expanding its presence in Vietnam, especially in semiconductor manufacturing and digital infrastructure sectors.
