Peloton Shares Surge as CEO Peter Stern’s Turnaround Strategy Shows Early Success

Peloton Interactive’s shares rose 7% on Friday after the fitness technology company beat Wall Street’s revenue expectations, driven by its revamped product lineup, AI-powered features, and price hikes across both hardware and subscriptions. The results have strengthened investor confidence in CEO Peter Stern’s turnaround strategy, aimed at returning the brand to profitability.

Peloton reported quarterly revenue of $550.8 million, exceeding analyst forecasts of $539.82 million, according to LSEG data. The company’s renewed focus on cash flow improvement, debt reduction, and streamlined operations has begun to resonate with investors after several years of financial turbulence.

Since taking over in January 2025, Stern has prioritized reshaping Peloton’s identity beyond its pandemic-era boom, repositioning it as a sustainable, subscription-based fitness ecosystem. The latest relaunch introduced AI-driven workout recommendations and upgraded connected fitness equipment, marking Peloton’s most significant product refresh in years.

Analysts at J.P. Morgan called the results “encouraging,” citing improvements in profitability and free cash flow, while cautioning that it remains to be seen if these changes will deliver “durable revenue growth.”

The positive earnings sent Peloton’s stock to one of its best weekly performances this year. The company currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 79.95, reflecting investor expectations of sustained earnings momentum.

Snap Shares Plunge as Ad Glitch and Competition Stall Growth

Snap’s (SNAP.N) shares fell nearly 21.5% in early trading on Wednesday following a weak quarterly performance and intensifying competition, highlighting its ongoing challenge to keep pace with AI-driven rivals.

The company’s slowest revenue growth in over a year was driven by advertisers cutting marketing budgets amid economic uncertainty and favoring larger platforms like TikTok and Meta’s Facebook and Instagram. A glitch in Snap’s ad-buying platform, which caused ads to be delivered at discounted rates, also contributed to the slowdown. Although Snap’s revenue met estimates, it was a significant drop from the double-digit growth seen over the past five quarters. Snap’s market value could fall by approximately $3.24 billion if losses persist.

Analysts at MoffettNathanson noted advertisers prefer platforms with direct access to purchase-ready users, diverse marketing tools, and clear ROI metrics — areas where Snap currently lags.

Snap’s performance contrasts with competitors Meta and Reddit, which reported strong second-quarter results, driving their shares up by 30.3% and 21.8% respectively this year, compared to Snap’s 12% decline. Following the results, at least 14 brokerages cut Snap’s price target, bringing the median to $9.

Snap is betting on its Sponsored Snaps video ad format, rolled out more broadly in June across the U.S. and other markets, which has driven increased user engagement and actions.

Morgan Stanley analysts said, “For Snap to capitalize on improvements in engagement, it must better demonstrate ad efficacy to advertisers and reduce barriers to adopting its products.”

Adobe Shares Drop 7% as Investors Question Timeline for AI Revenue Gains

Adobe’s shares fell 7% in early trading on Friday amid investor concerns that the integration of AI into its software products may take longer than expected to generate significant financial returns. This skepticism overshadowed the company’s raised full-year revenue forecast.

Senior equity analyst Angelo Zino from CFRA Research noted growing worries about competitive pressures and a longer timeline to meaningful AI monetization. Adobe, known for creative software like Photoshop and Premiere Pro, announced in April plans to incorporate AI models from OpenAI and Google into its generative AI tool, Firefly.

Firefly enables users to create and edit images and videos for commercial use using simple text prompts, without copyright complications. However, RBC analysts expressed caution, suggesting that although demand remains positive, it will take more time for Adobe’s AI initiatives to prove their value and alleviate competitive concerns.

Adobe now projects 2025 revenue between $23.50 billion and $23.60 billion, up from prior guidance of $23.30 billion to $23.55 billion. Despite this, at least five brokerages lowered their price targets after Adobe’s second-quarter results.

Year-to-date, Adobe’s stock has declined around 13%, and its 12-month forward price-to-earnings ratio is 18.88, notably lower than competitor Autodesk’s 29.16.
