AI Startup Clay Valued at $3.1 Billion in Latest Fundraise Amid AI Investment Boom

AI startup Clay’s valuation more than doubled in roughly three months, reaching $3.1 billion in its latest funding round as investor appetite for artificial intelligence companies remains strong.

Clay offers an AI-driven platform designed to automate sales and marketing operations, with notable clients including Google and Reddit. The company raised $100 million in this round, led by CapitalG, Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O) independent growth fund. Around three months ago, Clay’s valuation stood at $1.5 billion, based on an employee tender offer.

The surge in Clay’s valuation coincides with a broader surge in dealmaking, with investment activity in AI hitting its highest level since the pandemic-era peak in 2021. Big Tech’s recent earnings reports highlighted AI as a key growth driver across internet search, digital advertising, and cloud services.

Clay plans to use the new funding to accelerate product development. Co-founder Kareem Amin told Reuters that upcoming tools will enable clients to analyze data such as sales tickets and video calls with potential customers. The company is also developing a “signals” product aimed at providing sales representatives with insights on the optimal timing to contact potential leads.

Existing investors including Sequoia, Meritech Capital, and First Round Capital also participated in the round.

Palantir Shares Surge Nearly 9% After Raising Revenue Forecast on Strong AI Demand

Palantir Technologies (PLTR.O) shares jumped nearly 9% in early trading Tuesday after the company raised its annual revenue forecast for the second time this year. The data analytics and defense software firm is benefiting from strong demand for its AI-driven services across governments and enterprises.

Palantir’s stock has doubled this year and climbed more than 600% over the past three years, making it the top performer on the S&P 500 through the last close. Jacob Falkencrone, Saxo’s global head of investment strategy, said Palantir is evolving from a government vendor into an essential partner for enterprises in the AI revolution.

Wedbush analysts project Palantir could reach a $1 trillion market capitalization within the next few years, up from $379.14 billion as of the latest close. Co-founded by Peter Thiel in 2003 and publicly listed in 2020, Palantir has secured multiple U.S. government contracts this year, including a $30 million deal with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Trump administration’s renewed focus on national security has fueled growth, with the U.S. Army indicating it may spend up to $10 billion on Palantir’s services over the next decade. Sales to the U.S. government surged 53% in Q2 to $426 million, accounting for over 42% of Palantir’s roughly $1 billion total revenue for the quarter.

Valuation Concerns:
Despite its rapid growth, some analysts warn Palantir’s valuation is extremely high, trading at more than 200 times 12-month forward earnings—far above AI peer Nvidia’s multiple of 34.81. Morningstar analysts noted the company’s robust competitive advantages but cautioned that the valuation is increasingly difficult to justify.

Palantir also expects higher expenses in Q3 due to seasonal hiring amid competition for AI talent from major tech firms. Nevertheless, at least eleven brokerages raised their price targets on the stock following the earnings release.

Musk’s xAI Eyes $170-$200 Billion Valuation in Upcoming Funding Round, Financial Times Reports

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI is reportedly preparing to raise additional capital in a funding round that could value the firm between $170 billion and $200 billion, according to the Financial Times, citing sources close to the discussions. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is expected to play a significant role in the round, holding an indirect stake in xAI through its investment in Kingdom Holdings Company, which has put $800 million into the AI startup.

The discussions are still preliminary, and details may evolve, the report noted. Musk himself responded on X, stating that xAI is not currently seeking funding and has sufficient capital. PIF did not immediately comment on the report.

Previously, in June, Morgan Stanley disclosed that xAI completed a $5 billion debt raise along with a separate $5 billion strategic equity investment. The company is aggressively expanding its AI infrastructure with new data centers amid increasing competition in the sector.

xAI acquired X (formerly Twitter) in March, valuing the AI firm at $80 billion and X at $33 billion. Musk founded xAI in July 2023 to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which recently announced plans to raise up to $40 billion at a $300 billion valuation.

According to projections shared by Morgan Stanley, xAI expects to generate over $13 billion in annual earnings by 2029 and anticipates $1 billion in gross revenue by the end of this year. The company also plans to invest $18 billion in data center expansion going forward.
