Praguay President Santiago Pena’s X Account Likely Hacked in Bitcoin Scam
Paraguay’s government announced on Monday that President Santiago Pena’s official X (formerly Twitter) account had likely been compromised after suspicious posts promoting Bitcoin trading appeared.
The hacked posts falsely claimed that Paraguay had made Bitcoin legal tender and announced plans for a $5 million Bitcoin-backed reserve fund, accompanied by a statement purportedly from the government in Spanish.
Authorities urged the public to disregard any messages from the president’s X account until official confirmation is provided. Paraguay’s national cybersecurity team is collaborating with X to investigate the incident.
X did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
