Amazon to Roll Out Same-Day Grocery Delivery Across 2,300+ US Cities
Amazon Expands Same-Day Grocery Delivery to More Than 1,000 US Cities
Amazon has announced a major expansion of its same-day grocery delivery service across the United States. Currently available in over 1,000 cities and towns, the company plans to extend this service to more than 2,300 locations by the end of 2025. Amazon also intends to reach additional regions across the country by the close of 2026. While the service comes with a delivery fee for non-Prime customers, Amazon Prime members can enjoy it free of charge for orders above a set minimum.
The expanded service focuses on delivering perishable goods, including dairy products, meat, seafood, baked items, frozen foods, and fresh fruits and vegetables. This positions Amazon’s same-day delivery as a faster alternative to Amazon Fresh, which typically offers next-day or two-day delivery for groceries. The company has emphasized that same-day delivery will be available only in select cities, but the rollout aims to bring it closer to a broader segment of U.S. customers.
For customers without a Prime membership, same-day grocery delivery carries a \$12.99 fee regardless of the order size. Prime members, on the other hand, can access free same-day delivery if their order meets a minimum value of \$25. If the order falls below this threshold, Prime members can still opt for the service by paying a smaller \$2.99 fee. These pricing structures aim to balance convenience with cost, encouraging more users to subscribe to Prime.
Amazon has not yet revealed whether the same-day grocery delivery service will be extended to international markets, including India. However, the U.S. expansion reflects the company’s growing focus on speed and convenience in the grocery sector, leveraging its logistics infrastructure to compete with other major players in the online grocery market.
