Xiaomi 16 Series Rumored to Feature 50-Megapixel Front Cameras

Xiaomi 16 Series Launch Expected in China by Late September

Xiaomi is gearing up to unveil its 16 series smartphones, following the launch of the Xiaomi 16 Ultra, which the company has officially teased as bringing “a new height of mobile imaging.” Recent leaks suggest that the Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro will come with significant camera upgrades, including 50-megapixel front-facing selfie cameras. This marks a notable jump from the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, which featured 32-megapixel sensors for selfies and video calls when they launched in October 2024.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro will offer 50-megapixel front cameras with a wide field-of-view and autofocus support. These upgraded selfie cameras are also expected to allow 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, catering to content creators and selfie enthusiasts alike.

On the rear, both models are rumored to sport 50-megapixel primary cameras with 1/1.3-inch sensors. The Xiaomi 16 Pro is expected to feature additional enhancements such as ultra high dynamic range (HDR) capabilities and a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor, promising better depth sensing and more detailed imaging in varied lighting conditions.

Leica’s collaboration with Xiaomi is also expected to continue, with improvements in image processing and camera functionalities. The enhanced camera setups aim to deliver superior photography experiences, both for everyday shots and professional-grade images, positioning the Xiaomi 16 series as a strong contender in the premium smartphone segment.
