Qualcomm and MediaTek are preparing to unveil their next-generation flagship smartphone chipsets later this month. Unlike last year, both companies are expected to introduce two high-end mobile platforms at their respective launch events. MediaTek is tipped to announce the Dimensity 9600 and Dimensity 9600 Pro, while Qualcomm could debut the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
Ahead of the official announcements, two upcoming flagship processors have reportedly appeared on Geekbench 7. The benchmark listings are linked to unidentified Xiaomi and Oppo smartphones carrying the model numbers M1544F and PMX110. These entries provide an early look at how the new Qualcomm and MediaTek chips could perform.
The Xiaomi reference device is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, identified by the model number QTI SM8975. Meanwhile, the Oppo PMX110 is reportedly the upcoming Oppo Find X10 Pro Max, featuring MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset with the identifier MT6995.
According to the benchmark results, Qualcomm’s flagship chipset managed to stay ahead of MediaTek’s offering in both single-core and multi-core performance. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 recorded 3,582 points in the single-core test and 12,247 points in the multi-core test.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro, on the other hand, achieved a single-core score of 3,242 points and a multi-core score of 11,132 points. The Qualcomm chip was also reported to reach a higher peak clock speed, further extending its advantage in the early benchmark comparison.
These results should still be treated as preliminary, as performance can change depending on final hardware, software optimisation, thermal management, and production versions of the chipsets. A clearer picture of the rivalry between Qualcomm and MediaTek is expected once both platforms are officially announced and begin appearing in commercial smartphones.
