
AMD has expanded its desktop processor lineup with the Ryzen 5 7500 and Ryzen 5 5500F, adding fresh options across two platform generations. Both processors offer six cores and 12 threads. However, they use different architectures and motherboard sockets. The launch gives buyers another choice between building on AM5 and staying with an AM4 system.
The Ryzen 5 7500 uses AMD’s Zen 4 architecture and fits the AM5 platform. Its base clock is 3.7GHz, with boost speeds reaching up to 5GHz. It also includes integrated Radeon graphics, distinguishing it from the similarly named Ryzen 5 7500F. With DDR5 memory support and a 65W default TDP, the processor adds another six-core option to AMD’s Ryzen 7000 family.
The Ryzen 5 5500F takes a different route, combining Zen 3 cores with the AM4 socket and DDR4 memory support. AMD lists a 3GHz base clock and a maximum boost clock of 4.4GHz. The chip includes 16MB of L3 cache, supports PCIe 4.0 and has a 65W default TDP. It requires a separate graphics card, making that an important consideration when calculating the cost of a complete PC.
The platform difference is central to what these processors offer. A compatible AM4 setup may allow an owner to retain existing DDR4 memory, while the Ryzen 5 7500 requires an AM5 motherboard and DDR5. Buyers considering an upgrade should check their motherboard’s processor support list and BIOS requirements. Actual value will depend on local prices and the components that need replacing, rather than the processor price alone.
