Shopify Unveils AI Tool to Build Entire Online Stores from Simple Keywords

Shopify has launched a powerful new generative AI feature called the “AI Store Builder”, which enables merchants to create complete online storefronts simply by entering descriptive keywords. The feature, announced on Wednesday, marks a major leap in e-commerce automation and user experience.

The AI Store Builder generates three fully designed store layouts — complete with images, product descriptions, and site structure — based on the keywords provided by the user. This allows sellers to bypass the traditionally time-consuming design process, significantly lowering the barrier to launching an online business.

“Instead of just having a merchant click and drag and fill out text fields… we thought, why not ask them more open-ended questions and set up their store in the best likeness we can imagine, using AI,” said Vanessa Lee, Shopify’s Vice President of Product.

First Fully Automated Store Creation Tool

While Shopify has previously offered AI-powered tools — including text generation, image tools, and third-party integrations — the AI Store Builder is the first native feature to fully automate the entire setup of a merchant’s storefront.

The rollout reflects Shopify’s increasing investment in AI-driven services aimed at attracting a broader range of sellers, especially first-time entrepreneurs or small business owners who may not have the resources or technical expertise to build e-commerce sites from scratch.

Strategic Bet on AI

Shopify is positioning AI as a core component of its product ecosystem, offering features that span:

  • AI image generation,

  • Automated product descriptions,

  • Inventory management, and now

  • End-to-end website creation.

This aligns with the broader industry trend of integrating generative AI into consumer-facing platforms to simplify workflows, reduce costs, and personalize user experiences.

The feature is expected to boost merchant onboarding and streamline time-to-launch, especially for users looking to quickly test new product ideas or markets.

Amazon Tests AI-Powered Audio Summaries to Enhance Shopping Experience

Amazon has begun testing AI-generated audio summaries on select product detail pages, marking another step in the tech giant’s broader push to embed artificial intelligence across its platforms. The feature, announced on May 21, provides short-form spoken summaries of product information, designed to streamline the shopping experience for users.

The AI summaries are based on a synthesis of product details, customer reviews, and other related online content. U.S. customers in a test group can access the feature by tapping the “Hear the highlights” button within the Amazon shopping app. The company said it plans to expand availability to more products and users in the coming months.

The move is part of Amazon’s accelerated investment in voice- and AI-powered tools, following the rise of consumer interest in generative AI sparked by platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Amazon’s Expanding AI Ecosystem

Amazon has recently:

  • Upgraded Alexa+, its voice assistant, with generative AI capabilities,

  • Launched Rufus, an AI-powered assistant that answers product-related queries,

  • Introduced Shopping Guides, which offer curated product recommendations and expert advice.

These tools aim to deliver a more personalized, conversational shopping experience and help users navigate the vast inventory more efficiently.

Industry-Wide AI Race

Amazon’s announcement follows a wave of AI-driven innovations by other major tech firms. OpenAI, for example, recently enhanced ChatGPT’s web search to include personalized shopping suggestions with visual previews and purchase links.

Similarly, Google and Meta have integrated AI-powered features across search, messaging, and social media platforms, reflecting a broader industry trend toward more intelligent, voice-driven, and context-aware user experiences.

Amazon’s audio summary test suggests a future where spoken AI guidance may become a regular part of digital commerce, particularly as users increasingly expect faster and more intuitive ways to shop online.

Crusoe Secures $11.6 Billion to Expand Texas AI Data Center, Supporting OpenAI Infrastructure

AI infrastructure startup Crusoe has raised an additional $11.6 billion to significantly expand its upcoming data center in Abilene, Texas, marking one of the largest funding rounds in the emerging “neocloud” space. The new capital brings the total raised for the project to $15 billion and will allow Crusoe to expand the facility from two to eight buildings, the company confirmed on Wednesday.

Founded in 2018 as a crypto-focused firm, Crusoe has since pivoted to become a specialized cloud provider for AI workloads, part of a new wave of “neoclouds” that offer tailored infrastructure beyond the traditional giants like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

Crusoe has been contracted by Oracle to construct the first data center for Stargate — a major AI infrastructure initiative backed by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, with a planned $500 billion investment in global AI infrastructure. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Abilene facility is set to become OpenAI’s largest data center.

“Our customer is Oracle. OpenAI is Oracle’s customer,” Crusoe clarified in a statement, emphasizing its indirect yet vital role in supporting the ChatGPT creator’s infrastructure needs.

The project is seen as part of OpenAI’s long-term goal to reduce reliance on Microsoft, its current primary cloud provider.

Key Details:

  • Location: Abilene, Texas

  • Total Buildings: 8 (up from 2)

  • AI Chips: Each building will house up to 50,000 Nvidia Blackwell systems

  • Sponsors: Crusoe, Blue Owl’s Real Assets platform, and Primary Digital Infrastructure

The facility will support intensive generative AI workloads, crucial for OpenAI’s future model development and deployment.

The explosive growth in demand for AI compute capacity has fueled an investment boom in data centers powered by specialized chips like Nvidia’s Blackwell series — a market Crusoe is aggressively entering.
