Huawei FreeBuds 6 Launched: Semi-Open Design, 36-Hour Battery Life & Key Features

Huawei has introduced the FreeBuds 6, a pair of truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones featuring a sleek water-drop shape and a semi-open ear design. Launched alongside the Huawei Pura X foldable smartphone, these earphones promise a more comfortable and lightweight fit compared to their predecessors. The FreeBuds 6 are equipped with dual drivers, including 11mm dynamic drivers and micro-flat tweeters, aiming to deliver a high-fidelity audio experience. With AI-powered enhancements and an extended battery life of up to 36 hours when used with the charging case, they offer a premium listening experience.

Priced at CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 11,900), the Huawei FreeBuds 6 are available in three elegant colors—Aurora Purple, Sky White, and Starry Sky Black. They are currently up for pre-order in China through the Huawei China e-store, with official sales beginning on March 28. This latest addition to Huawei’s audio lineup is expected to compete with other high-end TWS earphones in the market, offering a combination of stylish design and advanced sound technology.

One of the key highlights of the FreeBuds 6 is their innovative acoustic architecture. Huawei claims they are the industry’s first semi-open dual-unit TWS earphones, designed based on extensive research on different ear shapes. The earphones are 12% smaller and 9% lighter than their predecessor, making them more comfortable for prolonged use. Additionally, they boast certifications like HWA Lossless and Hi-Res Wireless, ensuring high-quality audio output. Huawei has also collaborated with the Central Conservatory of Music’s chief tuning team to create classical and balanced preset EQ modes, enhancing the listening experience for audiophiles.

Apart from high-quality sound, the FreeBuds 6 also incorporate intelligent features such as ultra-wideband real-time hearing optimization, which dynamically adjusts sound frequencies based on the user’s ear canal shape, wearing position, and volume levels. They offer noise cancellation of up to 95dB and can reduce wind noise at speeds of up to 8m/s, making them suitable for outdoor use. With smart volume control that adapts to ambient noise, Huawei’s latest TWS earphones are designed to provide a seamless and immersive audio experience in any environment.

SiCarrier Claims Its Tools Can Help China Develop Advanced Chips

Chinese chip equipment maker Shenzhen SiCarrier Industry Machines asserted on Thursday that its domestically developed tools could enable China to manufacture advanced semiconductors, despite U.S. export controls on high-end chipmaking technology.

Speaking at the Semicon China industry fair, SiCarrier president Du Lijun noted that while China lacks access to advanced lithography systems due to U.S. trade restrictions, alternative non-optical technologies could be used to produce 5-nanometer (nm) chips. He acknowledged that multi-patterning techniques could increase manufacturing complexity and reduce yields but argued that they provide a viable path for China to progress beyond 7 nm chips.

SiCarrier, founded in 2022 and backed by a state investment fund, supplies major Chinese foundries such as Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and reportedly collaborates with Huawei. The company was among 140 Chinese firms added to the U.S. trade blacklist in December 2023.

The firm’s multi-patterning approach, patented in late 2023, utilizes deep ultraviolet lithography (DUV) and self-aligned quadruple patterning (SAQP) to mimic certain EUV lithography capabilities while reducing costs. This strategy is seen as a potential workaround to Western restrictions on ASML’s extreme ultraviolet (EUV) machines.

Huawei Teases Launch of Pura Series Foldable Phone and FreeBuds 6 TWS Earphones

Huawei is gearing up for its highly anticipated Huawei Pura Pioneer Festival, scheduled for March 20, where the company is expected to unveil a range of new products under its Pura series. The event is set to showcase the next generation of smartphones, including a foldable device that has been teased by a senior executive. While the exact model name remains undisclosed, all signs point to a groundbreaking addition to Huawei’s foldable lineup. In addition to the foldable phone, the event will also feature the launch of the Huawei FreeBuds 6, the brand’s latest true wireless earphones.

The Huawei Pura Pioneer Festival is set to take place at 2:30 pm local time (12 noon IST), and it promises to be a major occasion for tech enthusiasts. The festival will introduce not only the foldable smartphone but also a variety of other exciting products. Huawei has made it clear that this event will serve as the launchpad for some of the brand’s most advanced offerings, positioning the Pura series as a significant milestone in the company’s device lineup. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see how Huawei will evolve its foldable technology and whether it can compete with other market leaders in this segment.

One of the key products being teased is the Huawei FreeBuds 6. The earphones, which are expected to launch alongside the foldable phone, have been showcased in a vibrant purple color in the teasers. The design of the FreeBuds 6 appears to follow a similar aesthetic to the FreeBuds 5, which launched in 2023, with an elegant waterdrop design. The charging case also shares similarities with its predecessor but comes with the updated Huawei Sound branding, indicating potential improvements in sound quality or new features aimed at enhancing the listening experience.

With the Huawei Pura 70 series already launched in China earlier in April 2024, the upcoming event will provide a glimpse into the company’s continued innovation within the smartphone and wearable tech spaces. As Huawei prepares to unveil its next flagship products, anticipation is building over the potential features of the foldable phone and the FreeBuds 6, both of which are expected to offer significant upgrades in design and performance.
