AI to Transform LA 2028 Olympics

Olympic Broadcasting Services has outlined a future vision for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games that blends artificial intelligence, immersive storytelling and global entertainment.

Following the success of First-Person View drones used in Milano to capture high-speed winter sports from dramatic angles, organizers say LA 2028 will push technological boundaries even further.

AI is expected to allow viewers to interact with Olympic broadcasts in real time, including pausing action, accessing historical comparisons and requesting specific angles or data during events.

Broadcasters are also planning to expand the use of entertainment talent alongside athletes to appeal to broader audiences beyond traditional sports fans.

Officials say the Games will combine sports with storytelling, using Los Angeles’ position as a global media hub to deliver a more personalized viewing experience.

Premier League Signs Five-Year AI Partnership with Microsoft to Enhance Fan Engagement

The English Premier League announced a five-year partnership with Microsoft on Tuesday, aiming to integrate Microsoft’s AI-powered Copilot into the league’s digital platforms. This collaboration will provide fans with instant access to detailed facts and statistics about matches, players, and clubs.

The AI companion, fueled by Microsoft’s Copilot technology, will draw from an extensive database including over 30 seasons of Premier League statistics, 300,000 articles, and 9,000 videos, allowing fans to explore rich historical and current data seamlessly.

Sports leagues worldwide have increasingly adopted AI technology to manage and analyze vast amounts of data, enhancing fan experiences and engagement. For example, Spain’s LaLiga employs AI for match analysis and media production, while individual clubs use AI-driven tools to deepen fan interaction.

In addition to AI integration, the Premier League is migrating its digital infrastructure to Microsoft Azure. This move is designed to simplify AI deployment and establish a unified, modern platform for the league’s digital services.

Alligator Near Your Ball? AI Rules Expert at U.S. Open Explains What to Do

At this year’s U.S. Open golf tournament at Oakmont Country Club, an innovative AI-powered avatar is helping players and fans instantly navigate complex golf rules, including what to do if they encounter an alligator near their ball.

Inside a hospitality suite overlooking the 17th green, three demo terminals feature an interactive avatar of USGA rules expert Jay Roberts. Users can ask questions in English, Spanish, or Mandarin by holding their finger on the screen and speaking, receiving answers in the same language.

When asked about an alligator in a bunker where a player’s ball lies, the avatar humorously replied, “An alligator in the bunker, now that’s a hazard.” It then explained the options: the golfer may take free relief by dropping the ball at the nearest safe spot within the bunker, no closer to the hole, or choose to take a penalty stroke and drop outside the bunker.

This AI tool was developed by Deloitte in collaboration with the United States Golf Association, using four years of expert rules inquiry data combined with advanced AI technology to provide accurate, real-time answers.

Though not yet publicly available, the USGA envisions the avatar eventually being accessible via a mobile app or possibly displayed on golf cart screens to help players better understand the rules, promote fair play, and speed up the game.

Lou DiLorenzo, Deloitte’s National AI & Data Strategy leader, highlighted the technology’s potential to make golf rules more accessible and improve interactions between the USGA, courses, and players, ultimately enhancing the overall experience.
