Xiaomi issues software update for 115,000 SU7 sedans over assisted driving risks

China’s Xiaomi will roll out a software update affecting more than 115,000 SU7 electric sedans to fix potential safety issues linked to its assisted driving system, according to a recall notice from the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). The fix, delivered via over-the-air (OTA) update, marks the second time the model has been subject to recall protocols since its launch last year.

Regulators said the SU7’s Level 2 highway pilot system may not provide adequate early warnings or perform properly in extreme scenarios. The issue affects 116,887 standard SU7s manufactured between February 2024 and August 2025. Xiaomi confirmed the OTA update would be pushed out starting Friday.

China requires regulatory approval for OTA updates tied to autonomous driving, to ensure automakers cannot conceal defects or evade liability. The move comes as Beijing finalizes new safety rules for Level 2 automation, set to take effect in 2027. The draft standards were prompted in part by a fatal March accident involving a SU7 that caught fire after hitting a highway pole, just seconds after the driver disengaged the assistance system.

Level 2 automation allows the car to handle steering, acceleration, and braking, but still requires drivers to maintain constant attention. Analysts say China’s stricter oversight reflects both the growing popularity of advanced driver-assistance systems and heightened public concerns about road safety.

Xiaomi 15T Specs Surface Online, Expected to Feature MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra Chipset

Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its highly anticipated Xiaomi 15T series on September 25, with the lineup expected to include both the standard Xiaomi 15T and the Xiaomi 15T Pro. Ahead of the launch, leaks have provided a closer look at the base variant’s core specifications. The device is rumored to feature a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset, a 120Hz AMOLED display, and a large 5,500mAh battery, placing it firmly in the premium mid-range smartphone segment.

According to tipster Abhishek Yadav, the Xiaomi 15T will sport a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen, complete with a 120Hz refresh rate and built-in eye-care technology for reduced strain during extended use. The phone is also tipped to arrive with a Leica-branded rear camera setup, including a Leica Summilux optical lens, suggesting that photography will be a major focus for the series. This aligns with Xiaomi’s ongoing partnership with Leica, which has been featured in several of its recent flagship models.

Under the hood, the handset is expected to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset, first introduced with the Poco X7 Pro 5G earlier this year. While the Xiaomi 15T is confirmed to run on HyperOS, it remains unclear whether the device will ship with the newly announced HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 or stick with the existing version. Complementing the processor is a 5,500mAh battery that may support 67W fast charging, offering a strong balance between performance and endurance.

Adding credibility to the leaks, a smartphone with the model number Xiaomi 25069PTEBG—believed to be the Xiaomi 15T—recently appeared on Geekbench. The listing suggested an octa-core CPU configuration with a prime core clocked at 3.25GHz, three performance cores at 3.00GHz, and four efficiency cores at 2.10GHz. On benchmark tests, the device scored 1,336 in AI single-precision, 1,356 in half-precision, and 1,974 on the quantised test. The entry also showed the handset running Android 15 with 12GB of RAM, reinforcing expectations of a performance-driven smartphone ahead of its official debut.
