LG Collaboration: Meta Quest Pro 2 to Compete with Apple Vision Pro in 2025, Reports Suggest

Report: Meta and LG Set to Debut Second-Generation Meta Quest Pro by Q1 2025

According to recent reports, Meta is gearing up to unveil the highly anticipated Meta Quest Pro 2, marking a significant advancement in the realm of mixed reality technology. Developed as the successor to the company’s inaugural premium XR headset, the Meta Quest Pro 2 is poised to redefine the landscape with enhanced performance and functionality.

Partnering with South Korean tech conglomerate LG, Meta aims to leverage the latter’s hardware and software expertise to create a cutting-edge device that will rival the likes of the Apple Vision Pro and other forthcoming mixed reality headsets. With a focus on delivering unparalleled performance and immersive experiences, Meta is poised to position the Meta Quest Pro 2 as a formidable contender in the burgeoning XR market.

A Korea Economic Daily report, citing insights from an industry official, revealed that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan are slated to convene ahead of the planned collaboration to develop the “highest-performing XR headset” set to debut in Q1 2025.

The upcoming device is poised to surpass the capabilities of existing mixed reality offerings, leveraging LG’s advanced hardware and software technology in conjunction with Meta’s metaverse expertise. Notably, the Meta Quest Pro 2 is rumored to feature a user interface (UI) based on LG’s webOS, signaling a departure from the Quest UI utilized in its predecessor.

Initial reports of the LG-Meta partnership emerged in September 2023, igniting speculation about the forthcoming device and its anticipated features. With an expected price tag of $2,000 (approximately Rs. 1.65 lakh), nearly double the cost of the first-generation Quest Pro headset, Meta’s latest offering is positioned as a premium offering targeting discerning consumers seeking cutting-edge technology and immersive experiences. As Meta and LG join forces to push the boundaries of innovation in the XR space, the Meta Quest Pro 2 emerges as a pivotal milestone in the evolution of mixed reality, promising to usher in a new era of immersive computing and transformative experiences for users worldwide.

However, LG’s hardware won’t be the only technology from the firm to make its way to the purported headset. The report states that Meta is considering integrating LG’s webOS software in place of Quest UI — this could come in handy if the company wants to compete with visionOS on the Apple Vision Pro or Samsung’s purported ‘Infinte’ XR headset.

As part of the purported alliance, Meta’s AI technology will also make its way to some of LG’s products. The report states that Zuckerberg’s first visit to South Korean in a decade will be to discuss XR headsets, and that the companies are expected to announce their plans to team up to manufacture Meta’s next premium XR headsets.
