Elden Ring Surpasses 23 Million Copies Sold, Bandai Namco Confirms

Elden Ring’s Total Sales Tally Includes Both Physical and Digital Downloads across Platforms

Bandai Namco, the publisher behind Elden Ring, the highly acclaimed fantasy RPG, announced a staggering sales milestone for the game. Since its debut in 2022, Elden Ring has remarkably surpassed 23 million copies sold worldwide. This revelation coincided with the much-anticipated release date reveal and gameplay trailer drop for the game’s inaugural major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which occurred on Wednesday. Notably, this achievement marks a significant increase from the 20 million copies milestone announced by Bandai Namco exactly one year ago.

The reported sales figure for Elden Ring encompasses both physical copies and digital downloads across various gaming platforms, including the popular PC gaming platform Steam. This extraordinary success firmly establishes Elden Ring as the most commercially successful title developed by FromSoftware, comfortably surpassing the sales records of their previous critically acclaimed game, Dark Souls 3, which reached over 10 million units sold. In fact, Elden Ring’s impressive sales trajectory brings it remarkably close to matching the cumulative sales of the entire Dark Souls series, which boasts over 27 million copies shipped.

With the impending launch of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, fans can anticipate further growth in the game’s sales figures. The expansion, slated for release on June 21, promises to enrich the Elden Ring universe with new narratives, locales, adversaries, and challenges.

The recent unveiling of the expansion’s first gameplay trailer offered players a tantalizing glimpse into the upcoming content, fueling excitement and speculation within the Elden Ring community. As anticipation builds for the expansion’s release, Elden Ring continues to solidify its status as a beloved and commercially successful title in the realm of fantasy RPGs.

Shadow of the Erdtree requires the base game to be playable and will also be available in a bundle that packages Elden Ring and the upcoming expansion in a single offering. Meanwhile, Elden Ring remains popular on Steam, where it is still recording a concurrent player count of around 50,000 at the time of writing.

Back in February 2023, Bandai Namco had confirmed that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies worldwide in a year since its release. “The companies would like to thank everyone who has played this game from the bottom of their hearts, and will continue to develop various ways for the fans to enjoy the world of ELDEN RING in the future,” the publisher had said in a statement. Elden Ring released 25 February, 2022, across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X and went on to win the Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2022.
