Report: Google Pixel Watch 3 Set to Launch in 45mm Size, Pixel Buds Pro 2 Under Development

Google’s Current Offering: Pixel Watch 2 Limited to 41mm Size Variant

Unlike its competitors like Apple and Samsung, Google has adhered to a single-size variant strategy for its Pixel Watch lineup, with both the original Pixel Watch and its successor, the Pixel Watch 2, boasting a uniform 41mm diameter size. However, a paradigm shift appears imminent with the impending release of the Pixel Watch 3, as reports suggest the introduction of a larger 45mm size variant. This development follows earlier speculation in January indicating that Google was considering diversifying its Pixel Watch offerings with multiple size options to cater to a broader range of preferences and wrist sizes.

Recent insights from 9to5Google shed further light on the Pixel Watch 3’s anticipated lineup, revealing plans for a larger 45mm size variant alongside the traditional 41mm model. Sources familiar with the matter assert that both iterations are expected to boast similar features, although the larger-sized variant may benefit from a boosted battery capacity to accommodate the increased dimensions.

This expansion in size options marks a pivotal moment for Pixel Watch users, who have long clamored for a larger size model to better suit broader wrists and enhance overall comfort and aesthetics.

The move towards offering multiple size variants aligns Google more closely with industry standards set by its competitors, notably Apple and Samsung, both of whom have embraced diversity in smartwatch sizes with their respective offerings. For instance, the Apple Watch Series 9 caters to users with options of 41mm and 45mm size variants, while Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 6 is available in both 40mm and 44mm configurations. By embracing this trend, Google seeks to enhance the appeal and accessibility of its Pixel Watch lineup, empowering users with greater flexibility to select a size that aligns seamlessly with their individual preferences and style sensibilities.

The 9To5Google report also claimed that Google was working on a Pixel Buds Pro 2 earphones. The successor to the Pixel Buds Pro, first launched in the Indian market in 2022, does not yet have an official moniker or a launch timeline, but the earphones have reportedly been in development for a while.

No further details are yet available about the Pixel Watch 3 and the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Back in November last year, a patent filing had suggested that the next generation of Pixel Watch could go for a buttonless design, featuring sensors that detect gestures.

The Google Pixel Watch 2 debuted in India in October 2023. The watch is powered by a Qualcomm 5100 SoC and sports a 3D curved always-on display. The Pixel Watch 2 comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage and runs Wear OS 4.0 out-of-the-box.
