Substack now enables podcasters to synchronize and distribute their episodes to Spotify

Substack unveiled several new features for podcasters on its platform on Thursday, with a major highlight being the integration with Spotify. This integration enables podcasters on Substack to seamlessly synchronize and distribute all their free and paid episodes to Spotify’s streaming service. Additionally, Substack introduced custom audio transcripts and captions, along with enhancements to clip sharing and mobile video.

These updates coincide with Substack’s announcement that podcasters on its platform collectively generate over $100 million in annual revenue, a figure that has more than doubled in the past year. Furthermore, the number of active podcasters on Substack has also doubled within the same timeframe.

The integration with Spotify aims to enhance discoverability for Substack podcasts, enabling podcasters to reach a broader audience. Moreover, the integration allows existing subscribers of Substack podcasters to access paid episodes on Spotify. Substack anticipates that this integration will potentially increase earnings for podcasters, as free listeners are encouraged to upgrade to a subscription.

Podcasters on Substack can easily set up the Spotify integration by navigating to their podcast settings, selecting the Spotify dropdown, and choosing the “Sync to Spotify” option to create a new feed containing all current and future episodes. Paid episodes are clearly marked with a padlock symbol, and listeners must link their Substack account to Spotify to access paid episodes directly on the streaming service.
