Google Renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook
Google has officially rebranded NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook, marking the next stage in the evolution of its AI-powered research and note-taking platform. First introduced as Project Tailwind during Google I/O 2023, the service has grown from an experimental tool into a widely used research assistant. According to Google, the platform now serves more than 30 million users and over 600,000 organizations globally, highlighting its increasing role in helping people organize information, conduct research, and generate insights.
While the name is changing, Google emphasized that Gemini Notebook will remain a standalone product focused on research, learning, and knowledge management. The rebranding aligns the platform more closely with the broader Gemini ecosystem, reflecting Google’s strategy of unifying its AI offerings under a single brand. Users can continue accessing Gemini Notebook independently while benefiting from tighter connections with other Gemini-powered services.
One of the biggest enhancements accompanying the transition is the introduction of native code execution through a secure cloud-based computing environment. This feature is designed to enable more advanced analysis and experimentation directly within notebooks, allowing users to process data, run code, and generate insights without leaving the platform. By bringing cloud computing capabilities into the experience, Google aims to expand Gemini Notebook’s usefulness for researchers, students, developers, and professionals.
Google is also deepening integration between Gemini Notebook, the Gemini app, and Google Search. Users can already create, edit, and access notebooks directly from the Gemini app, with seamless synchronization ensuring that changes are reflected across both experiences. Looking ahead, Google plans to bring notebook support to AI Mode in Google Search, making it easier for users to save, organize, and build upon information discovered through search.
