The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is actively experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) to develop advanced climate models, aiming to enhance the accuracy of weather forecasting in response to the surge in torrential rains, floods, and droughts witnessed across the expansive country. A senior official from the meteorological agency highlighted that the intensification of weather systems in India, attributed to global warming, has notably heightened the occurrence of extreme weather events. According to estimations by the independent Centre for Science and Environment, these events have led to the loss of nearly 3,000 lives in the current year alone.
