Telegram Introduces Revenue Sharing for Channel Owners, Rewarding Them with TON Tokens

Fast-track Your Advertisements: Utilize Telegram’s Ad Platform for High-Follower Channels

In a significant move, Telegram has unveiled plans to share revenue generated from advertisements with channel owners on its platform, marking a pivotal shift in its monetization strategy. Effective from March 1st, this initiative will see channel owners rewarded with Toncoin tokens, the native cryptocurrency of the TON blockchain, for displaying advertisements on their channels.

Specifically, 50 percent of the revenue generated from advertisements will be distributed to channel owners in the form of Toncoin tokens, offering them a tangible incentive for their contributions to the platform’s content ecosystem.

According to Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, the platform’s broadcast channels collectively amass a staggering 1 trillion views each month, yet only a mere 10 percent of these views are currently monetized through Telegram Ads.

With the official opening of the Telegram Ad Platform to advertisers from nearly a hundred new countries in March, the platform aims to bridge this gap and tap into its vast user base to expand its advertising reach globally. This strategic expansion not only promises lucrative opportunities for advertisers but also underscores Telegram’s commitment to empowering its community of content creators and channel owners.

The Telegram Ad Platform, hailed as a versatile tool for messenger marketing, enables merchants to create sponsored posts and swiftly disseminate advertisements across channels boasting tens of thousands of followers. With the platform poised to welcome advertisers from diverse geographic regions, Telegram’s revenue-sharing initiative signals a concerted effort to foster greater engagement and participation within its community.

By incentivizing channel owners to showcase advertisements and contribute to the platform’s revenue stream, Telegram is poised to bolster its position as a leading player in the digital advertising landscape while nurturing a vibrant and sustainable content ecosystem. This will create a virtuous circle, in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins — or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels,” Durov added.

Following this announcement, the Toncoin token spiked in value by over 40 percent this week. The token as of Friday, March 1 is trading at $2.64 (roughly Rs. 218) after it recorded a profit of 3.12 percent in the last 24 hours as per CoinMarketCap. The fully diluted market cap for Toncoin at present stands at $13.6 billion (roughly Rs. 1,13,126 crore). It is however noteworthy, that Telegram has not yet disclosed the criteria for revenue sharing, TechCrunch reported. The end-to-end encrypted messaging platform caters to around 800 million users from around the world, statistics tracked by Business of Apps show.
