TikTok introduces its ‘Add to Music app’ feature, now accessible in over 160 countries
TikTok has announced the global expansion of its “Add to Music app” feature, allowing users in 163 new countries to add songs playing on clips to music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify.
The expansion includes countries such as Albania, Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Cambodia, Cameroon, Denmark, Egypt, Ghana, Guyana, Israel, Kenya, Lebanon, Maldives, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Palestine, Paraguay, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe, among others.
Initially introduced in the U.S. and the U.K. in November, the feature was later extended to 19 additional countries, including Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, UAE, Argentina, South Africa, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Users can now add songs to Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify, depending on regional availability.
Users will find an “Add Music” button below clip descriptions and next to track names. Upon tapping the button, they can select their preferred music service, with the option to change the default service through the “Music” menu in settings.
If users on TikTok don’t specify a playlist for adding songs, they will be automatically saved to a default list, similar to Spotify’s “Liked Songs” list.
Spotify has recognized the significance of music discovery on social platforms and has formed partnerships with various platforms like TikTok, BeReal, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter (formerly known as X) to enable users to easily add songs to their Spotify accounts.
Last year, ByteDance introduced its music service, TikTok Music, in several countries including Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, and Indonesia. The company also mentioned that it is working on making the “Add to Music App” feature available to TikTok Music users in the near future.
