eBay introduces an AI-powered “shop the look” feature to its iOS app

eBay introduced a new AI-powered feature called “shop the look” in its iOS mobile app aimed at fashion enthusiasts. This feature suggests a carousel of images and ideas based on the user’s shopping history, offering personalized recommendations that evolve over time as the user continues to shop. The goal is to help users explore how different fashion items can complement their existing wardrobe.

“Shop the look” includes interactive hotspots that, when tapped, reveal similar items and outfit inspirations. These suggestions encompass both preowned and luxury items tailored to the user’s personal style. Powered by eBay.ai, the feature was developed in collaboration with eBay’s Responsible AI team, aligning with the company’s RAI Principles.

“Shop the look” will be accessible to any eBay shopper who has viewed at least 10 fashion items over the past 180 days. It will be visible on both the eBay homepage and the fashion landing page.

For eBay, this addition provides a new way to showcase its extensive inventory and potentially drive more sales. The company plans to expand the feature to other categories over time and continue enhancing its personalization aspects throughout the year.

While eBay is leveraging AI to enhance the fashion shopping experience, other tech giants like Google and Amazon are also exploring AI in the fashion space. Google introduced a feature for virtual try-ons, while Amazon uses AI to assist customers in finding clothes that fit. However, eBay’s focus with “Shop the look” is more on providing fashion inspiration and helping users discover their personal style.

Initially available on iOS in the U.S. and U.K., support for Android is expected to arrive later this year.
