Sony Expanding Horizons: Testing PC VR Games Support for PS VR2, Expected Release in 2024

PS VR2: A Robust Library with Over 40 Titles Since February Launch

Exciting news emerges from Sony as PlayStation VR2 gears up to broaden its horizons by introducing support for VR games on PC in the upcoming year. This development marks a significant expansion of the PS VR2 ecosystem, offering players a wider array of gaming experiences beyond the titles available on the PS5 platform. Since its international launch in February 2023, followed by its debut in India in December of the same year, PS VR2 has captivated gamers with its immersive virtual reality capabilities. However, until now, the headset has been exclusively compatible with the PS5, limiting its access to a subset of VR content.

In a recent announcement on the PlayStation blog, Sony revealed its ongoing efforts to test the feasibility of enabling PS VR2 players to access PC VR games, thereby enhancing the gaming variety available on the platform. While specific details regarding compatibility, platforms, and performance remain undisclosed, Sony aims to roll out this support to players in 2024, promising further updates as development progresses. This move is poised to significantly augment the PS VR2 games library, which, despite its initial success, has faced limitations in terms of available titles.

As players eagerly await the arrival of PC VR games support for PS VR2, questions linger regarding the logistics of implementation, including the potential integration with platforms like SteamVR and the mechanisms for accessing and downloading PC VR titles. Sony’s commitment to expanding the PS VR2 ecosystem reflects its dedication to delivering unparalleled gaming experiences to players worldwide, underscoring the company’s ongoing innovation and evolution in the realm of virtual reality gaming. Since its launch last February, PS VR2 has steadily grown its library to encompass over 40 titles, with notable additions such as Resident Evil 4 VR, promising even more immersive adventures for players to explore.

PlayStation also announced the launch of a new PS VR2 title, The Wizards – Dark Times: Brotherhood, an action-adventure spellcasting game, which puts players into the shoes of a wizard and allows them to cast spells with hand gestures. The VR game can be played solo in a single-player mode or experienced in up to three-player co-op. The game is now live on PlayStation Store for PS VR2 users.

The blog revealed launch dates, DLCs, new announcements for a host of other VR titles on the platform. Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, a time-travelling action VR title from Mighty Eyes, received a new gameplay trailer and a release date. The game is out June 27. Additionally, Little Cities Bigger, a city-building game from Purple Yonder, was announced for PS VR2, set to arrive March 12.

Zombie Army VR, the VR version of the popular Sniper Elite spinoff Zombie Army series, is also coming to PS VR2 this year. Meanwhile, Arizona Sunshine 2 received new free updates, which include an in-game Corgi companion and three new Horde mode maps. The Corgi companion is available now and can be added as sidekick via the newly added Cosmetics Screen. The three new multiplayer maps will arrive one each month, starting March.

Sony’s VR updates follow the reveals of two VR titles, Metro Awakening and Legendary Tales, for PS VR2 at last month’s State of Play showcase. Metro Awakening is story-driven first-person VR title from the Metro series, set for PS VR2 launch this year. Legendary Tales, on the other hand, is VR action-RPG from Urban Wolf Games, which launched February 8.
