Amazon Launches Beta of Rufus AI Shopping Assistant for Indian Users

Rufus AI Now in Beta for Select Amazon India Mobile App Users

Amazon has officially rolled out its Rufus AI Shopping Assistant in beta to users in India. This innovative feature, integrated within the Amazon mobile app, aims to enhance the shopping experience by providing a range of functionalities designed to assist users in making more informed purchasing decisions. Rufus, which was initially introduced in February and limited to users in the US, is now making its debut in the Indian market, with plans to expand availability to more users in the coming weeks.

The launch of Rufus in India marks a significant step in Amazon’s strategy to leverage artificial intelligence to improve user engagement and satisfaction. The AI chatbot is designed to handle various user queries, offer personalized product recommendations, and facilitate product comparisons. Once users in India gain access to Rufus, they will notice a new icon located at the bottom right corner of the Amazon mobile app. Tapping this icon will reveal the Rufus interface, which appears as a bottom sheet overlay. The design aims to seamlessly integrate with the existing app layout, ensuring that users can easily access and interact with the chatbot without disrupting their shopping experience.

 

 

The interface of Rufus features a text field where users can type their queries. For those who are unsure of what to ask or how to start, suggested questions will be provided to guide them. This feature is designed to make the interaction with Rufus more intuitive, especially for users who are new to AI-based assistance. Additionally, conversations with Rufus are persistent; users can swipe down to close the chatbox, and upon reopening, they will see their previous interactions, allowing for a continuous and coherent dialogue.

Amazon’s move to introduce Rufus in beta to a subset of its Indian users reflects a strategic approach to gradually roll out new technologies. By initially limiting access to a portion of the user base, Amazon can gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before a broader release.
