Apple is reportedly working on a major redesign of its iOS, iPadOS, and macOS platforms, with plans to introduce a more streamlined and user-friendly interface. The upcoming updates, which are expected to be launched as iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, aim to simplify the experience for users across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. This overhaul could also serve as a catalyst for encouraging users to upgrade from older devices, offering a fresh, modern design that enhances the usability and aesthetic of Apple’s software ecosystem.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple’s iOS, iPadOS, and macOS will undergo “dramatic” changes in what is being described as the biggest software redesign in years. Sources familiar with Apple’s plans suggest that iOS 19 will represent the most significant update to the iPhone’s operating system since iOS 7, which was released over a decade ago. Similarly, macOS 16 is expected to be the largest redesign of Apple’s desktop operating system since the launch of macOS 11 five years ago. This marks a bold move for Apple as the company seeks to refresh the look and feel of its operating systems across multiple devices.
While previous rumors hinted at a major overhaul with iOS 18, which was expected to introduce significant UI changes inspired by Apple’s visionOS, those updates arrived without any drastic changes to the interface. However, it seems that Apple has finally decided to implement these much-anticipated changes in iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16. The report suggests that Apple is focusing on improving the overall user experience with more intuitive designs and features that cater to both new and experienced users.
Leaked images and reports from sources like Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech have also provided glimpses of what the redesigned iOS camera app might look like. These visuals show a user interface (UI) inspired by visionOS, featuring round app icons, which would replace the traditional rounded square icons that have been a hallmark of iOS for years. If these design elements make it into the final release, users can expect a fresh look that aligns more closely with Apple’s evolving vision for its software across devices. The dramatic redesign could mark a new chapter in Apple’s software development, further bridging the gap between its different platforms.
