Apple has unveiled its year-end roundup showcasing the most sought-after apps and games across the App Store, spanning over 35 countries and regions, including India. Notably, WhatsApp has maintained its stronghold as the foremost free iPhone app, while the DSLR Camera app, offering users professional-grade camera controls, clinched the title for the top-paid iPhone app in 2023. Earlier this month, Apple also revealed its distinguished 2023 App Store Award winners, further celebrating innovation and excellence within the app ecosystem.
Displayed prominently on the App Store’s Today tab, the comprehensive 2023 year-end charts spotlight the year’s top free and paid apps and games, in addition to highlighting standout titles from Apple Arcade. WhatsApp, securing its position as the most downloaded free iPhone app, was closely trailed by perennial favorites like Instagram and YouTube. In a surprising turn, the streaming platform JioCinema secured an impressive fourth spot, surpassing heavyweights such as Google, Snapchat, and Google Pay.
Within the domain of productivity-driven applications, pdf Scanner, Slow Shutter Cam, and Forest: Focus for Productivity emerged triumphant as the leading downloaded paid apps on the iPhone. Shifting focus to gaming preferences, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) claimed the top spot as the most downloaded free game on the iPhone, while Hitman Sniper secured the throne as the top-paid game. Ludo King and Subway Surfers ranked among the top three free iPhone games, while Minecraft and Real Flight Simulator soared to the upper echelons on the paid gaming charts, showcasing the diverse preferences of iPhone users in the gaming sphere.
On iPad, JioCinema was the most downloaded free app in 2023, while illustration app Procreate was the top paid app on the Apple tablet. BGMI emerged as the top free game on iPad as well, with Minecraft as the most downloaded paid game. Over on Apple Arcade, NBA 2K23 Arcade Edition, Asphalt 8: Airborne+, and Angry Birds Reloaded were the top three most downloaded games of the year.
During the recent App Store awards ceremony, AllTrails, the hiking and biking application, claimed the prestigious title of the best iPhone app for 2023. Alongside this accolade, the App Store also bestowed recognition upon notable applications like Prêt-à-Makeup, a digital makeup sketch pad app, and Photomator, a versatile photo editing software, both acclaimed across various Apple devices. Adding to the roster of triumphs, miHoYo’s newest RPG gacha release, Honkai: Star Rail, ascended to the pinnacle as the crowned iPhone Game of the Year. Meanwhile, in the realm of Mac gaming, the souls-like action RPG Lies of P emerged triumphant as the finest game, securing its position as the best game on the Mac platform.
