Binance Co-Founder Issues Warning to Crypto Investors Regarding Escalating Listing Scams
Alert: Beware of Scams! Binance Co-Founder Yi He Faces Impersonation Threats, Especially on LinkedIn
Binance Co-Founder Yi He has recently raised the alarm on a concerning trend where malicious actors are exploiting her identity to approach both current and prospective cryptocurrency investors, peddling fraudulent token listings in exchange for money. Such scams fall into the category of ‘token listing’ scams, where scammers leverage social networking platforms like LinkedIn and X to target individuals within the crypto community.
These cyber criminals employ tactics such as identifying and analyzing the investment behaviors of potential victims before reaching out to those more likely to invest in new tokens with the hope of substantial returns. In some instances, scammers also target crypto projects, enticing them to pay for token listings on prominent exchanges.
Yi He disclosed that scammers impersonating her have been particularly active on LinkedIn, reaching out to unsuspecting individuals. To caution the crypto community against falling victim to these scams, He took to X to share a detailed post outlining the threat and attached an image of the deceptive messages being circulated by her impersonators.
Her message emphasized the importance of vigilance, stating, “Please be wary of those who claim to be close to me and discuss with you about investments or listing.” As scams involving impersonation continue to evolve, He’s proactive disclosure serves as a crucial reminder for individuals to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of communications in the cryptocurrency space.
Earlier this month, self-proclaimed blockchain expert Anndy Lian also brought to light several fishy groups on WhatsApp messaging app. Through these unauthorised groups, scammers have been known to lure-in group members into free crypto investment opportunities, crypto rewards, and monthly events among other services.
“This gives crypto a bad name,” Lian published in a tweet, that also showed a screenshot of a fake Binance WhatsApp group titled ‘Singapore Binance T10′.
