ChromeOS Introduces Customization for Keyboard Shortcuts

Google’s April update for ChromeOS introduces several new features aimed at enhancing user experience. One of the main highlights is the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts and mouse button actions, a feature commonly found in other desktop systems. Users can now assign custom keyboard shortcuts to specific actions, providing greater flexibility and personalization options.

To access this feature, users need to enable a setting flag called “#enable-shortcut-customization.” While this feature needs to be turned on manually for now, Google has announced that it will be enabled by default with the next ChromeOS update, M124.

In addition to keyboard customization, the update also brings improvements to offline text-to-speech voice support, enhancing the accessibility and usability of ChromeOS for users who rely on these features.

The ChromeOS M123 update is currently rolling out to users gradually over the next few days, allowing them to take advantage of these new features and improvements.

ChromeOS Keyboard customization

In addition to keyboard shortcut customization, Google’s April update for ChromeOS also introduces the ability to customize mouse button actions. Users with mice featuring more than two buttons can now assign these additional buttons for various tasks such as taking screenshots, muting and unmuting, inserting emojis, and more. This feature adds further versatility to the user experience, allowing individuals to tailor their mouse functionality according to their preferences and workflow.

Furthermore, users can set dedicated key combinations for actions performed by keyboard shortcuts, providing even greater flexibility and customization options to enhance productivity and usability on ChromeOS. Overall, these new features aim to empower users with greater control over their computing experience, whether they’re using keyboard shortcuts or mouse button actions.
