Man Avoids Jail for Throwing Objects at Nigel Farage During Election Campaign
Josh Greally, 28, has avoided imprisonment despite being sentenced for throwing objects at Nigel Farage during an election campaign event. Greally received a six-week jail term, suspended for 12 months, from Barnsley Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Additionally, he has been ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, attend 20 rehabilitation activity days, and pay £85 in court costs along with a £154 surcharge.
Greally admitted to a public order offence after hurling what appeared to be a disposable coffee cup and another item at the Reform UK leader. The incident occurred on June 11 in Barnsley town centre, South Yorkshire, while Farage was campaigning from the top deck of his battle bus. Despite the objects being thrown, they did not hit Farage, who was captured on video ducking to avoid them.
This event followed a similar incident a week prior, where Farage had a milkshake thrown at him while leaving a Wetherspoons pub in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, where he now serves as an MP.
