Mark Zuckerberg Takes Aim at Apple Vision Pro Once More, Touts Meta Quest 3 as ‘Superior
Meta CEO Zuckerberg Emphasizes Balance: Resolution Matters, But Not at Expense of Ergonomics and Motion Blur
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently weighed in on Apple’s Vision Pro headset, asserting that Meta’s Quest 3 holds the edge over its competitor. Responding to commentary from an analyst on Threads, Zuckerberg rebuffed claims that the Vision Pro was significantly ahead of Meta’s offering, highlighting the Quest 3’s superiority.
This marks the second instance of Zuckerberg publicly criticizing Apple’s foray into mixed reality. Notably, while the Vision Pro is priced at $3,499, the Quest 3 comes in at a considerably lower price point of $499, making it a more accessible option for consumers.
In the Threads post, analyst Benedict Evans suggested that the Vision Pro represented the pinnacle of VR technology, projecting a timeline of 3-5 years for Meta to catch up to Apple’s advancements. However, Zuckerberg expressed disagreement with this assessment, emphasizing that the Quest 3 already stands as a formidable competitor to the Vision Pro.
He refuted claims that Meta’s VR engineers dismissed the Vision Pro as merely a replica of the Quest 3, asserting that the two products offer distinct features and capabilities tailored to different user preferences.
Moreover, Evans posited that the Vision Pro could potentially become the device of choice for Meta within the next 3-5 years, highlighting its potential to outpace Meta’s own offerings in terms of technological innovation. Conversely, he suggested that Apple might aim to match the pricing of the Quest 3 within the same timeframe, signaling increased competition in the burgeoning VR market.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hit out at Apple’s Vision Pro headset over the weekend, stating that the social networking firm’s Quest 3 was the superior product. The Meta Co-Founder and CEO was responding to a post on Threads by an analyst claiming the Vision Pro was up to five years ahead of Meta’s offering. This is the second time that Zuckerberg has criticised Apple’s first mixed reality headset, which is priced at $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2.89 lakh) — the Quest 3 costs $499 (roughly Rs. 41,300).
Analyst Benedict Evans stated in a Threads post that Apple’s Vision Pro was “pretty much the device Meta wants to reach in 3-5 years,” adding that he was “genuinely baffled” by Meta’s VR engineers claiming the headset was “basically just the same thing” as the Quest 3. Evans also said that the Apple Vision Pro was the device Meta would want to sell in 3-5 years, while Apple would want to sell its devices at the same price as the Quest 3 in the same time period.
