Mill’s redesigned food waste bin truly delivers on being faster and quieter than its predecessor

Mill’s redesigned food waste bin boasts significant improvements over its predecessor, promising faster and quieter operation while maintaining its eco-friendly functionality. The bin efficiently processes a wide range of food waste, transforming it into a substance resembling chunky coffee grounds, which can be used as soil enrichment or chicken feed, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions for households.

The new bin addresses previous limitations, such as noise levels and processing speed. Unlike its predecessor, which could take nearly a day to complete a cycle, the redesigned bin finishes its task overnight, delivering consistent results by morning. Co-founder Matt Rogers’ assurance of a completed cycle by morning holds true, and the bin now operates quietly, eliminating disruptions to evening activities like TV viewing.

Kristen Virdone, head of product at Mill, attributes these improvements to a simple design brief: ensuring each cycle finishes before breakfast. Leveraging a year’s worth of data, the team focused on optimizing performance, resulting in a more efficient and user-friendly product.
