Oscars 2024: Barbie Dominates with Five Nominations as Shortlist for 10 Categories Unveiled

Strangely, Christopher Nolan’s latest cinematic endeavor, which meticulously recreated an atomic bomb explosion using practical effects, finds itself notably absent from the consideration for Best Visual Effects at this year’s Oscars. Instead, the film has clinched nominations in the realm of audio excellence. Ludwig Göransson’s compelling Best Original Score and the film’s outstanding sound design secured their positions in the competitive lineup, pitted against illustrious contenders such as David Fincher’s The Killer, Michael Mann’s Ferrari, and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. The latter film has seized a total of four spots in the Oscars 2024 shortlist, notably including ‘Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People),’ performed by the Osage tribe, vying for recognition in the Best Original Song category, poised for the March 10, 2024 event.

In contrast to the previous year, no Indian entries made it to the Oscars 2024 shortlist. Despite being India’s submission for consideration, the Jude Anthany Joseph-directed Malayalam-language disaster feature, 2018: Everyone is a Hero, failed to secure a spot in the Best International Feature Film category. Among 88 eligible countries and regions, films had to meet a “minimum viewing requirement” to qualify for voting consideration. As the nominations approach, Academy members will immerse themselves in viewing the 15 shortlisted films before determining the final submissions for the prestigious Oscars event, with the official nominees set to be unveiled on January 23.
