Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8s Gen 3: On-Device Generative AI and 200-Megapixel Camera Support

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3: Over 30 On-Device Generative AI Models Supported, Including Gemini Nano and Llama 2

Qualcomm’s latest unveiling, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, marks the company’s newest addition to its lineup of flagship-grade chipsets, boasting a plethora of on-device artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Positioned as a more cost-effective alternative to its top-tier counterpart, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, launched in October last year, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 inherits some of the hardware features from its high-end sibling. Notably, it introduces support for high-speed generative AI models, accommodating up to an impressive 10 billion parameters, a testament to Qualcomm’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile technology.

Scheduled to hit the market in the near future, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is primed to power smartphones from an array of prominent manufacturers, including Honor, iQoo, Redmi, Realme, and Xiaomi. While Qualcomm has confirmed the imminent arrival of devices equipped with the latest chipset, specific details regarding the inaugural handset remain under wraps, leaving enthusiasts eagerly anticipating further announcements regarding its specifications and features.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 showcases impressive specifications, underscoring its prowess as a formidable contender in the mobile chipset arena. Fabricated using a cutting-edge 4nm process node, the octa-core chipset comprises a Prime core (Cortex-X4) clocked at 3.0GHz, supplemented by four ‘performance’ cores boasting a peak clock speed of 2.8GHz, and three ‘efficiency’ cores ticking away at 2.0GHz. Complementing its robust processing capabilities, the chipset integrates an Adreno GPU capable of supporting HDR gaming and real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing in select titles, delivering an immersive gaming experience unparalleled in the mobile realm.

Furthermore, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 offers substantial memory and storage enhancements, accommodating up to 24GB of LPDDR5x memory clocked at speeds of up to 4200MHz, alongside support for UFS 4.0 storage. These advancements not only elevate the chipset’s multitasking capabilities but also contribute to smoother overall performance, ensuring seamless operation even under the most demanding workloads.
