Rooms, a 3D Design App and ‘Cozy Game,’ Receives Major Update as User Base Surpasses 250K
Rooms, a 3D design platform created by former Google employees, has released a significant update to its iOS app, aiming to enhance user discovery with new features. The update introduces an activity feed, an explore page, category browsing, and more, enhancing the overall user experience.
Positioned as an interior decorating app falling within the cozy gaming category, Rooms allows users to construct and code intricate 3D rooms and mini-games using a vast library of digital items, totaling over 7,500. Users can customize these items by editing code with Lua, the programming language also utilized in Roblox Studio.
Since its beta launch on the App Store five months ago, Rooms has experienced impressive growth, boasting a quarter of a million registered users, a significant leap from 40,000 in 2023. This remarkable achievement reflects the platform’s resonance with users and its ability to foster creativity and engagement.
Jason Toff, co-founder of Rooms and a former member of Google’s AR/VR division, expressed his team’s surprise and delight at the positive reception of the platform since its launch. Alongside Toff, co-founder Bruno Oliveira, also a former Google employee, and Nick Kruge, who brings experience from Uber, YouTube, and Smule, form the core team behind Rooms, driving its evolution and growth.
