Samsung Unveils Futuristic Flex In and Out Concept Display at CES 2024, Hinting at Future Galaxy Foldable Innovations

Samsung’s ‘Flex In & Out’ Display Concept at CES 2024: Folding, Shutting, and Bending Innovation for Future Galaxy Foldables

At the forefront of innovation, Samsung showcased its cutting-edge ‘Flex In & Out’ foldable screen technology during CES 2024. Unveiling a remarkable clamshell-style foldable smartphone, Samsung redefines the boundaries by enabling a seamless 360-degree folding experience. Unlike traditional flip phones, this device not only opens and shuts conventionally but also bends backward, presenting an extraordinary level of flexibility.

The inner screen eliminates the need for an external display, granting users access to information even when the device is folded. Samsung, a South Korean tech conglomerate, emphasizes the durability of the ‘Flex In & Out’ display, asserting its capability to withstand extreme conditions through rigorous testing processes such as temperature variations, sand exposure, water immersion, and even withstanding the impact of bouncing basketballs on the foldable panels. This groundbreaking concept heralds a new era in smartphone design, merging aesthetics with functionality.

The South Korean smartphone maker is yet to announce any plans to integrate the new ‘Flex In & Out’ display technology in a future Galaxy Z Flip smartphone. A folding phone with a single display would eliminate the need to configure an outer display separately from the home screen, while potentially allowing the use of more apps when the display is folded shut.

Other display concepts shown off by Samsung at CES 2024 included the Rollable Flex display that can be expanded up to five times its original size — this scroll-like screen technology was first demonstrated by the company in May 2023. Bezel-less Rollable Flex smartphones are tipped to go into mass production in 2025, which means we could see phones equipped with this technology arrive as soon as next year.
