Truecaller Introduces Call Recording and AI-Driven Transcriptions to Indian Users on Android and iOS Platforms
Enhanced Functionality: Truecaller Offers Call Transcription Support in English and Hindi Languages
Truecaller’s recent rollout of call recording and AI-driven transcription features in India marks a significant expansion of its service offerings. Initially introduced in the US in June 2023, the company has swiftly extended these capabilities to cater to the needs of users in diverse regions. Available exclusively to premium subscribers, both Android and iOS users now have the ability to record both incoming and outgoing calls directly within the Truecaller app. With this integration, Truecaller aims to streamline the call recording process, eliminating the necessity for users to resort to third-party applications for this functionality.
In addition to call recording, Truecaller has integrated AI technology to offer comprehensive transcription services. Once a call concludes, users can leverage the AI-powered transcription feature to obtain a detailed transcript of the recorded conversation.
This integration not only enhances user convenience but also underscores Truecaller’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to enrich its platform’s functionality. Notably, while call recording was previously available within the app, the functionality was discontinued following Google’s imposition of restrictions on apps utilizing APIs designed for accessibility features to record calls.
The implementation of call recording varies between iOS and Android devices. Due to the more restrictive nature of iOS with regard to third-party call recording, Truecaller users on iPhones must navigate to the Search page within the app and select “Record a call.”This action prompts the app to dial a specialized recording line provided by Truecaller.
Subsequently, users can initiate the call they wish to record and merge it with the recording line, triggering the commencement of the recording process. Truecaller emphasizes that all recorded calls are stored locally on the device, with the option for users to create backups via iCloud for added security and peace of mind.
On Android, the process is rather straightforward. The Truecaller dialler includes a dedicated recording button that can start and stop recording. If a user is not using the app’s dialer, they will see a floating button to record. For both platforms, once the call has ended, a push notification will indicate when the transcription is ready. Transcriptions are available in English and Hindi languages. Users can listen to recordings, rename them, delete unwanted ones, or share them with other apps.
It should be noted that the Google Pixel 8 series and supported models from older generations, as well as Samsung smartphones supporting Galaxy AI already have an inbuilt feature to transcribe calls in real-time. However, users who do not have such a feature in their smartphone can use Truecaller at a cost. It is part of the app’s paid features, and users will need to subscribe to Truecaller’s Premium plan. In India, the paid tiers start at a monthly cost of Rs. 75 and a yearly price of Rs. 529.
