X intends to integrate Grok’s AI more extensively, according to a researcher studying the app

Elon Musk’s X is exploring further integration of xAI’s Grok into its social networking app. Recent discoveries suggest that X is developing new features, such as the ability to query Grok about X accounts directly, use Grok by selecting text within the app, and access Grok’s chatbot via a side pop-up while continuing to interact with other parts of X.

Independent app researcher Nima Owji recently shared these findings. He noted discovering these additions on X’s website on July 5, but clarified to TechCrunch that they have not yet been rolled out to the public.

For instance, Owji found that Grok could be accessed via a side pop-up on the right of the screen while browsing X, similar to how users can check their DMs from the app’s home screen through a smaller overlay window. This approach mirrors how companies like Google and Microsoft incorporate chatbots into their productivity apps, often making them accessible via a sidebar for quick interaction. This setup would enable X users to engage more frequently with Grok, whether while posting on the app, browsing their timeline, or exploring new information.
