Amazon’s Rumored “Petit Color” Kindle Could Bring Affordable Color E-Reading

Amazon is reportedly working on a new color e-reader, potentially called “Petit Color,” which may offer a more budget-friendly alternative to the existing Kindle ColorSoft.

Amazon may be preparing a new color Kindle e-reader, reportedly codenamed “Petit Color”, according to images and details shared by a Reddit user. Said to have been under development since June 2024, the prototype reveals a smaller display than the standard Kindle (2022) and thicker bezels reminiscent of Amazon’s existing design. Unlike the monochrome e-Ink display of the 2022 model, the Petit Color is expected to feature a color e-Ink screen.

The leaked images show the e-reader’s interface, including battery and Wi-Fi indicators in light blue at the top right. While specifications remain scarce, the e-reader is expected to be more affordable than the Kindle ColorSoft Signature Edition, which launched in October 2024 at $279.99 (around Rs. 24,500). The Reddit post suggests that Amazon has not finalized the name, but “Kindle Petit Color” is currently used in the prototype images.

Given that Amazon only officially sells the Paperwhite variant in India, the Petit Color could potentially launch in India as a budget-friendly color e-reader option. The prototype hints that the device will maintain Amazon’s signature e-reader design, with user-friendly navigation and a compact form factor suitable for reading on the go.

Overall, the Kindle Petit Color seems aimed at consumers seeking a smaller, more affordable color e-reader, expanding Amazon’s Kindle lineup beyond its current monochrome and high-end color options.
