Dot’s AI is exceptionally eager to get to know you
AIs that flirt with you, help you find a date, or become your girlfriend are becoming more common. Now, there’s “Dot,” a new AI and chatbot designed to be a “friend, companion, and confidant,” according to its App Store description. Dot thrives on getting to know your innermost thoughts and feelings.
The concept is intriguing: an AI that personalizes itself to you and your interests, offering advice and input that reflects its understanding of you through intensive Q&A sessions. Whether you’re dealing with a career change, a breakup, or a roadblock to success, Dot can lend a sympathetic ear and provide support.
However, Dot is not a person, a therapist, or a best friend. It mimics human speech and sympathy but isn’t a replacement for real human interactions. This is intentional, as the co-founders explain.
“Dot is not a replacement for human relationships or friendships. It’s a different kind of thing, facilitating a relationship with my inner self,” said Jason Yuan, Dot’s co-founder and a former Apple designer. “It’s like a living mirror of myself, so to speak.”
