Google enhances the search experience in the Chrome mobile app
In response to growing competition from startups like Arc, Google announced on Wednesday the introduction of five new features to the Chrome browser on mobile devices, aimed at improving the search experience. These enhancements include new shortcuts for local search results, an updated address bar for easier navigation, trending search suggestions, live sports cards for fans, and more personalized search recommendations tailored to users’ browsing habits. The features will be rolled out soon for both Android and iOS devices.
One notable new feature is Chrome Actions, designed to help users perform specific tasks more easily without needing to navigate to settings. This feature now extends to local search results, allowing users to quickly access shortcut buttons such as “Call,” “Directions,” and “Reviews” when searching for a local business.
Currently, Chrome Actions is available on Android devices, with Google planning to release an iOS version later this fall.
Google has also improved the Chrome address bar for iPads and Android tablets. The new design allows users to open the address bar while still viewing the current web page, optimizing the use of larger tablet screens for a better browsing experience.
Additionally, the Chrome browser on iOS and Android devices will now feature new shortcut suggestions based on users’ past searches. For example, if someone frequently types “schedules” and often clicks on the City Metro website, that website will now appear higher in the search suggestions whenever the user searches for “schedules.” This enhancement aims to make searching more efficient and tailored to individual browsing habits.Google enhances the search experience in the Chrome mobile app.
