Report: Apple Likely to Introduce AirPods with Active Noise Cancellation and USB-C Case in 2024
Reportedly, Apple is gearing up to release two versions of the 4th generation AirPods, incorporating features such as active noise cancellation. Additionally, the company is contemplating the replacement of the Lightning connector with a USB-C port.
Apple might launch the fourth generation of AirPods sometime in 2024 alongside the iPhone 16 series. The tech giant is also expected to bring an updated design and shortened stems.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple might launch two versions of AirPods 4 which will be available at two different price points. Gurman also claims that the current generation of AirPods, which cost Rs 19,900, are not as commercially successful as their previous iterations and that the upcoming non-pro AirPods models will replace both AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.
The standard version of AirPods 4 is also expected to get support for active noise cancellation (ANC), ditch the Lightning port for a USB-C case, and speakers for Find My alerts.
In terms of aesthetics, the forthcoming AirPods 4 is rumored to exhibit a design reminiscent of a blend between the current-generation AirPods and the AirPods Pro. The report further indicates that the new earbuds will feature shorter stems, improving the overall fit, though it remains uncertain whether Apple intends to introduce silicone tips. Regarding the AirPods Max, there are speculations that the tech giant may unveil an updated version next year, introducing new color options and a USB-C port, though no new software and hardware features are anticipated.
As for the AirPods Pro, a refresh is expected in 2025, focusing on enhanced comfort. Rumors suggest that Apple is exploring features such as body temperature measurement and a variety of health tracking functionalities.
Nevertheless, nothing has been officially confirmed at the moment, and Apple reserves the right to make changes in the future. In a recent announcement, the tech giant revealed that AirPods Pro owners have the option to purchase the USB-C case separately for $99.
